Quran in Arabic Language (Surah Yusuf Verse 2)

Surah Yusuf, Verse 2:

إِنَّا أَنزَلْنَاهُ قُرْآنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

No doubt about it, it is We, We sent it down as an Arabic recital so that (hopefully) all of you can (think) and understand.

Explanation:

Quran is meant to be spoken instead of being reduced to just a beautiful sound. It is meant for all human beings to think about and understand it. Saidina Umar ra said "learn Arabic because it enhances your ability to think."

All of you

  • All of you refers to all of humanity

Why Arabic?

  • Arab literally means to express yourself and your feelings in the most elaborate ways; a river that is overflowing; gushing
  • It is an expressive language and extremely rich with imagery
  • A way to protect Islam from being tarnished with liberal interpretation that can cause confusion and from being reduced to restrictive interpretation that can be mistaken as a dictatorship among the believers and non-believers.
  • It has becomes the language of the believers and not just an ethnic.

Think and understand

  • Everybody can think but not everyone can understand (they can misunderstand too)
  • Quran can direct your thoughts to the right way
  • Eg: Yusuf as does not have much knowledge except what his father taught him when he was a child. But he grew up as an adult that is able to think and understand clearly and able to control his emotions.
  • Quran do not emphasise knowledge but it emphasise thinking and understanding.
