Get rid of the clothes you don't wear

The average American buys 65 new pieces of clothing per year yet is less satisfied with every subsequent purchase. We sometimes think we have all these pieces, but when you really look, you'll find there's a hole or a button that doesn't work for you.

A closet cleanout:

• Take all the clothes out at once. Then remove the pieces that only fit a future self, are stained or too uncomfortable to wear.
• Keep the everyday essentials.
• Don't put anything back that needs to go to the dry cleaner or tailor.
