Miserliness is when a person is not willing to leave some of God's gifts at the disposal of others, even though his means are much more than his needs.Miserliness causes people to hate the miser, and people near and far distance themselves from him.Miserliness is the cause of cruelty, because the miser hears the cries of the poor and sees their pitiful faces and at the same time does not help them, and this is the source of cruelty.Miserly people are sometimes strict with their wife and children to the extent that they wish for his death and this is another disgrace.Miserly people are...etc.

Miserliness

Cowardly people can never use their abilities, competences and talents and the result is backwardness in life.In addition, when their religion, life, honor and country are threatened, they refrain from trying to defend themselves and instead of being in the line of defenders and warriors, they stand in the line of the sick, disabled and children.No coward has ever reached a position; He has not made an important discovery, nor has he achieved a significant victory, nor has he reached the heights of perfection.

Cowardice

On the one hand, poor people feel inferior in themselves, and no matter how clever and intelligent they are, due to this feeling of inferiority, they refrain from speaking up and defending their rights, and on the other hand, they know that many people do not value their words because often they are worldly and value rich people, this feeling causes the poor to not be able to express their rights.

A stranger is a person who has no friends and acquaintances and feels lonely, and we know that worldly people distance themselves from poor and needy people and leave them as strangers in their own city, and unlike the rich, they are not strangers even in faraway lands from their homeland.

Condemnation of Miserliness, cowardice and poverty

Amir al mu'minin, peace be upon him, said:<ol><li class="ql-align-center">He who adopts greed as a habit devalues himself;</li><li class="ql-align-center">he who discloses his hardship agrees to humiliation;</li><li class="ql-align-center">and he who allows his tongue to overpower his soul debases the soul.</li></ol>

The factors of disgrace and humiliation

The word "greed" means seeking more than one's right and taking the blessings of life from the hands of others. It is obvious that greedy people must submit to any humiliation in order to reach their goals and reach out to everyone and break their character to achieve their greedy goals. When greed increases, people do things that are completely stupid.

Greed

It is clear that when a person talks to a doctor about his pain and asks him for a cure, or tells a judge about the injustice that has happened to him and asks for justice, or talks to a friend about his trouble in order to get a loan, he has not done anything wrong, he was just looking to get rid of those problems. But telling the problems with those who do not have any ability to solve them, in the end, it causes humans to be humiliated.In such cases, a person should be self-controlled and not complain.

Disclosing secrets

The meaning of "...allows his tongue to overpower his soul " is to get out of the control of reason and thought and say whatever comes to mind.It is obvious that the words that do not originate from thought, reason and piety in many cases create dangers that humans are unable to compensate for and sometimes cause the resentment of honorable people and cause differences among people. A wise person should put his tongue at the disposal of his intellect, not that his intellect is at the disposal of the tongue, the first is a source of happiness and the second is a source of humiliation.

Do not be like him who hopes for (bliss in) the next life without action, and delays repentance by lengthening desires, who utters words like ascetics in this world but acts like those who are eager for it; if he is allowed something from it he does not feel satisfied; if he is denied he is not content;

he is not grateful for what he gets and covets for increase in whatever remains with him; he refrains others but not himself; he commands others for what he himself does not do; he loves the virtuous but does not behave like them; he hates the vicious but himself is one of them; he dislikes death because of the excess of his sins but adheres to that for which he is afraid of death.

He is oblivious and forgets himself!

If he falls ill he feels ashamed; if he is healthy he feels secure and indulges in amusements; when he recovers from illness he feels vain about himself; when he is afflicted he loses hope; if distress befalls him he prays like a bewildered man; when he finds ease of life he falls into deceit and turns his face away; his heart overpowers him by means of imaginary things while he cannot control his heart by his conviction;

He is with God in times of difficulty and not in comfort!

for others he is afraid of small sins, but for himself he expects more reward than his performance; if he becomes wealthy he becomes self conscious and falls into vice; if he becomes poor he despairs and becomes weak;

He has contradictions in his thinking and behavior.

he is brief when he is doing a good thing but goes too far when he is begging; when passion overtakes him he is quick in committing sin but delays repentance; if hardship befalls him he goes beyond the canons of the (Islamic) community; he describes instructive events but does not take instruction himself;

He is lazy and does not like to act!

he pre aches at length but does not accept any preaching for himself; he is tall in speaking but short in action; he aspires for things that will perish and ignores things that will last for good; he regards profit as loss and loss as profit; he fears death but does nothing in its anticipation.

He is a claimant without obligation.

He regards the sins of others as big but considers the same things for himself as small; if he does something in obedience to Allah he considers it much but if others do the same he considers it small; he therefore rebukes others but flatters himself;

He is arrogant.

entertainment in the company of the wealthy is dearer to him than remembrance (of Allah) with the poor; he passes verdicts against others for his own interests and does not do so against himself for others' interests; he guides others but misguides himself; he is obeyed by others but he himself disobeys (Allah); he seeks fulfilment of obligations (towards himself) but does not fulfil his obligations (towards others); he fears the people (and acts) for other than his Lord (Allah) and does not fear his Lord in his dealings with the people.

others benefit from his fruits and he himself dies of hunger!?
