Si tratta di una combinazione di due caratteri: sopra c’è agnello e sotto io . L’agnello copre o sta sopra la persona.Quando Gesù venne in questo mondo, Giovanni Battista lo definì “l’Agnello di Dio che toglie i peccati dal mondo” (Giovanni 1:29). Abbiamo bisogno di risolvere il problema del peccato perché esso è la causa della nostra separazione da un Dio santo e perfetto. Poiché il Suo amore per noi è tanto grande, “Colui che non ha conosciuto peccato”, cioè Gesù, suo Padre Dio “lo ha fatto diventare peccato per noi, affinché noi diventassimo giustizia di Dio in Lui” (2 Cor 5:21). Gesù, l’Agnello, ha sacrificato se stesso spargendo il proprio sangue, divenendo così la “coperta” per noi uomini.
