Victory Starts as a Thought

In a world where we often seek validation and love from others, self-love is often mistaken as self-indulgence. People easily justify affection for others, but when asked to be affectionate towards themselves, they hesitate as if love can only be outsourced. If love emerges from within it can only be used to fill others' cups. How Dare I try to fill my own cup without feeling like a narcissist? No wonder people keep waiting for someone to rescue them.

For a long time, self-love was a language that was so foreign to me that I could feel a giant language barrier. But with time I realized it had been built into me and all I had to do was return to it. So, there are Seven ways you can love yourself. I.e speak the language of self-love. And I am gonna teach you all those languages.

Learning to love yourself is the beginning of a lifelong romance. And it starts with building yourself a routine.Now you might ask, "Utkarsh, why do we need a routine?" I’d say: because once you establish a routine, you create a set of actions that you no longer resist. Why? Because you’ve practiced them. Over time, they become second nature—you can do them on autopilot.It no longer feels like pushing a boulder up a hill because you’ve been doing it every day. Your brain adapts. You become what you consistently do, not what you did just once. You need to create four types of routines—routines.

1)Build yourself a Routine

Create a morning routine that excites you and makes waking up a pleasure. This routine should focus on nurturing yourself before the world starts pulling you in all kinds of directions. A good morning routine can even prevent you from staying up too late due to unnecessary scrolling or binge-watching.For example, this could involve taking a peaceful walk in nature, like at a park, and doing some yoga.Here’s a great question to guide you:“How can I create peaceful mornings where I feel confident and self-assured about myself?”

a) Morning Routine

Your fitness routine should not only make you physically stronger but also mentally resilient. Discipline, after all, is one of the greatest expressions of self-love.Include regular workouts and meditation practices in your life. Block a specific part of your morning for these activities, so when distractions arise, you’ll clearly know what they’re pulling you away from.I know it can be hard to fit in both meditation and workouts, especially when you're busy, so try alternating between workout days and contemplative practices like meditation.

b) Fitness Routine

Build a customized bedtime routine to unplug, calm your nerves, slow down, and prepare for quality rest. The key is adopting good sleep hygiene:<ul><li>Sleep at the same time every night.</li><li>Avoid taking your phone to bed.</li><li>Stop watching any content after 10 PM.</li><li>Instead, read a book or listen to calming music before sleeping.</li></ul>I know many of you might resist the idea of not taking your phone to bed because of the possibility of urgent messages or calls. However, it significantly disrupts your sleep. Do these steps religiously every night, and your mind and body will thank you.

c) Bedtime Routine

As someone who has suffered from chronic acne, I can confidently say that my skincare routine changed my life.It can be as simple as washing your face daily with a gentle cleanser, followed by a toner and moisturizer. I also use a body lotion to keep my skin healthy and hydrated.This routine has not only protected me from many skin problems but also boosted my confidence. Trust me, nothing can dent your self-esteem like a pimple—I’ve been there. So, please incorporate a skincare routine into your life. If you're suffering from severe acne then don't shy away from seeing a dermatologist.

d) Skincare Routine

Don’t underestimate the power of routines—they are the foundation of the optimal behaviors you want to instill in yourself.Imagine working out, meditating, sleeping well, and waking up early as if it were second nature. How healthy, grounded, and confident would you feel? Routines are the key to that transformation.

Starting and Ending days with positive words of affirmation is always transformative. People tend to be too hard on themselves while they spend their whole day trying to berate themselves but when they’re called to appreciate their hard work, they find it extremely disingenuous. Doesn’t that speak for the toxic culture we have accepted? Words have power over your subconscious so you better start and end your day with the right ones.

Try to create your own personal affirmations. As we get older, we become so obsessed with making money that we start believing anything that can not be capitalized is a waste of time. In this pursuit, we often silence our inner child, which can lead to feelings of emptiness, depression, and, in worst cases, burnout.Ask Yourself:“What is the perfect way I can express my inner child freely, without any judgement from the adult I have become?”And You never know you might get this urge to indulge in your hobbies and start painting even though you might not be great at it. Listening to your inner child is one of the purest forms of self-love.

3)Love your Inner child

Once a month, Take some time to write a love letter to yourself. Celebrate your little wins and write about all the things you have learned every month. Tell yourself how proud you are of the person you are becoming while you develop skills for the next phase of your life. Reflect and see what you’re trying to do here. Who you’re trying to become. Are you keeping your promises?Look at your month from a broader perspective and recognize all the little things you’ve accomplished that have added up to something meaningful. This letter is a reminder of your growth, your dedication, and your worth.

4)Write A Love Letter to Yourself

As a people pleaser, I had a problem saying no to anyone which ultimately means that I ended up putting everyone’s interest before mine. This made me miserable because it came at the cost of my happiness and well-being. So I had to learn how to say no to people. Initially, I made a lot of enemies but with time people who loved me understood and respected my boundaries.Here are 5 different ways to say no Sadly, I have something else going on.I have another commitment.I wish I were able to.I don't have the bandwidth for that right now.Thanks for thinking of me. However, I will not able to.

5)Learn to say No.

I used to believe I could only buy myself something valuable once I achieved a certain goal. I thought I didn’t deserve good clothes or accessories until I reached that milestone, which left me constantly postponing my happiness. I was programming myself to believe I wasn’t worthy of treating myself until I “earned” it.But now, I realize that I deserve to feel good right now, not in the future. Each item I buy is a reflection of my worth today, a reminder that I’m worthy of love, care, and happiness, no matter where I am in my journey. Buying something is about honoring who I am, right now.

6)Buy yourself Gifts

Here are 6 types of toxic people I’ve encountered, and I wish I had known about them sooner to protect my mental health:Schemers Schemers manipulate the world for their personal gain, using people as means to an end. They're subtle and passive, making it hard to catch them in the act. Never try to confront them or defeat them at their own game—cut them off completely. They won't change; it's their default behavior.

7)Avoid Toxic people

GossipmongersThese people thrive on talking about others behind their backs, finding pleasure in other people’s misery. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, and small minds discuss people.” If you encounter someone like this often, it’s best to cut them out of your life.Energy VampiresEnergy vampires drain your energy, leaving you feeling exhausted and self-doubting. If you feel drained after spending time with someone, they're likely an energy vampire. If they don’t uplift or recharge you, cut them off without guilt—they won’t change.

Flaky PeopleFlaky people are unreliable and only around for fun. They might seem like friends, but they’re inconsistent and will disappear without explanation. It’s okay to take breaks, but always communicate that with your friends and loved ones. Inconsistent people won’t provide the stability you need.Negative NancyNegative people are constantly unhappy, focusing on what’s wrong with the world, no matter the situation. Their negativity will eventually rub off on you, so it’s best to cut them off before you become cynical too.

Victim-minded people believe life happens to them, not for them. They stay stuck in their circumstances, constantly blaming their past or situations. Avoid them, as their mindset can drag you down with them.

In the end, we realize the real home we are all searching for isn't out there—it’s inside us. It's the space we create within ourselves, where we invite others in without fear or pretenses. It is where we learn to love ourselves, even the broken parts, and find peace in being alone. When we do that, we see we’ve always belonged—not to someone else or some place, but to ourselves.

Dementors are dark creatures that suck all the happiness out of a person, leaving them with only their worst memories, much like how depression can engulf a person, making them feel hopeless and disconnected from positive emotions.Harry’s heightened vulnerability to Dementors is closely tied to his traumatic past, much like how children who experience trauma are more prone to mental health challenges like depression.

1)Dementors was a metaphorical representation of depression

In the story, Dementors force people to relive their worst memories, and Harry's childhood was filled with loss, neglect, and fear, which makes him more affected by their presence than others.This shows how individuals with traumatic pasts may have deeper emotional scars that make them more prone to negative mental health outcomes later in life. This doesn't mean that you will live a miserable life. It just means that you have to make extra effort to become stronger.

So you can repel dementors by using The Patronus Charm by focusing on a positive, happy memory, symbolizes the power of hope, resilience, and positive thinking to counteract depression.The problem for people who experience depression and prolonged suffering is that they often feel like they have no positive or happy memories—at least, that’s what depression makes them believe. So, what can you do in that situation? You conjure up a happy memory from the future. What I’m trying to say is that hope for a better future is the answer. This idea is clearly represented in book too.

2)How to escape dementors/Depression?

Harry potter didn't conjure up a patronus by relying on a happy memory from the past but he relied on a happy memory from the future where he is living with sirius, someone who truly loves him. Someone who was his dad's best friend till the end.

In Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry initially struggles to produce a strong Patronus not just because of happy memory but also because Harry hasn’t fully realized his own potential or internal strength. He’s still in a mindset where he subconsciously believes that someone else will come and save him from his tragic life. However, everything shifts after Harry uses the Time-Turner with Hermione to revisit the pivotal moment by the lake.

3)You Have the Power to Change Your Life

As they watch the past events unfold, Harry initially waits for his father or someone else to appear and save him, Sirius, and Hermione from the Dementors. When no one arrives, he realizes with growing clarity that it wasn’t his father who saved them—it was him, from the future. In that moment, Harry understands that the power to change his fate has been within him all along.

This is a key moment of emotional growth for Harry. It symbolizes how hope, self-belief, and the ability to envision a better future can be even more powerful than fear or despair.If you watch this moment in the movie, you’ll see how transformative it is for Harry. It’s the instant where he steps into his role as the true hero we’ve all been waiting for, realizing that he has the power to shape his own destiny. Much like how we become a true hero when we stop looking for someone to save us and believe in our own capability to change the future.

The key lesson from that moment you can take is that nature operates by its own rules, and those who approach it with arrogance or overconfidence may suffer consequences (as we see with Draco Malfoy, who is injured because of his disrespectful attitude). There is no "conquering" nature through rational control or personal virtue. True strength lies in embracing life’s chaos rather than seeking to control or conquer it.

4) Buckbeak’s Lesson: How Nature Rewards Respect and Punishes Ego

The Boggart, which takes the form of whatever a person fears most, represents how our inner fears—whether rational or irrational—can consume and control us if we let them. However, it also shows the potential dangers of that knowledge, as it can lead to mischief or harm if misused. The map is a reminder that understanding one's surroundings can be both a tool for good and a source of temptation.

7) The Marauder's Map

Sirius’s wrongful imprisonment serves as a powerful metaphor for the importance of truth and the need to question the narratives we’re told, whether it’s in the wizarding world or our own.It also highlights how resilience in the face of injustice—like Sirius’s determination to clear his name and protect Harry—is crucial for finding freedom, both literally and metaphorically.

Even If I was sitting at the most beautiful beach, I would be too sad to appreciate. So when I came back I decided that I would really work on my health. Fortunately I have come so far when it comes to my health goals.I also used to be more unreliable as a family member but now that I am more healthy, my family relies on me more. I have become more resourceful. I hated myself at times when I was incompetent and sickly.

3)If I become really healthy again what would I be able to do?

Body often knows what it needs. I know you have felt it too. Tune in to your body and honour it whenever you feel like it.it can be as small as taking a break from work or going for a walk. It might ask for you eat more healthy. You must have felt at certain times.Lately, I have been feeling that my body craving for more vegetables in my food and also often demands to start my day with some fruits.Now I often feel like doing more yoga than workout because my body has been feeling stiff.

After a lot of experiments I have found certain exercises and things that makes me feel the healthiest. For example I feel healthiest when I have worked out in the morning and had a proper breakfast.I feel healthiest when I go to bed early.I want you to write whatever comes to your mind.

The second book I want to recommend is Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. Big Magic is like this religious book about creativity. The author calls ideas the disembodied spirit of genius and she believes that creativity is magic and not in some metaphorical sense but in a literal sense like Harry Potter. It is less of a practical book but a more philosophical one. I highly recommend it to all the artists and creative people.

The next three books are my favourite poetry books and I am sad about the fact that the target audience of poetry is shrinking day by day to almost nothing. But I hope that you guys love poetry books because I have some really good recommendations.The first one is “Strength in Our Scars” by Bianca Sparacino and The second one “Gentle Reminder” is also by the same author. Both are good if you’re trying to heal yourself from heartbreak or if you have lost someone recently. These two will fill you with feelings of warmth, hope and positivity.

Another great poetry book is Poetry Pharmacy by William Seighart. I loved this book so much that I decided to keep a hard copy of it in my library. I leap onto this book whenever I am going through a hard time. It always recommends perfect poetry according to the situation you’re going through or the emotions you’re feeling.Poetry is the kind of art form that makes sense for you either when you’re going through something tragic or something ecstatic. It’s not for people of moderation.

5th favourite nonfiction book that I read this year is 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. let’s begin the second part of the blog. All my favourite fictional books. My first two recommendations are murder mystery books because that is my favourite genre.

Part 2 - Fiction Books

The first one is “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd” by Agatha Christie. This is considered one of the magnum opus of Agatha Christie. This is featured in 1001 books you must read before you die. It’s classic And I bet you that you will not be able to guess the right killer no matter how skilled of a literary detective you think you are. But again you can try, My guess was way off.

The second book that I enjoyed by Agatha Christie is “ABC Murders”. You are gonna enjoy this one because it’s a murder mystery about a serial killer. I think I finished this one much faster than Roger Ackroyd.

My next recommendation is Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa and it is perfect for cat lovers. It’s a poignant story about a boy who rescues this cat and they both go on a road trip together. If you are a cat person you will cry while reading this, I can promise you that.

I have two audiobook recommendations for people who love audiobooksThis year I have also found the cutest romance audiobook series That I listen to whenever I need to hear something cosy and fun. The name is Love Lines by Cara Bastone and There are three parts to this series and every part is a story of a different couple, I love only 1st part “Call Me Maybe” and 3rd part “Seatmate”. 2nd Audiobook “Sweet Talk” was not my favourite. There is another romance audiobook by the same author that I love named “Love at First Psych”. All three are full of banter and deep meaningful conversation.

By now, you must have figured that I am addicted to reading murder mystery books. Hence, My next audiobook recommendation is for the people who love Christmas as much as a murder mystery. And the name of the audiobook is Mistletoe Murders narrated by Cobie Smulders. Her narration is morbidly perfect for murder mysteries.PS: This audiobook is an audible original so you gotta have an audible subscription to listen to this audiobook series.Plot: It’s a story about a woman who runs this cute Christmas-themed store by the day and solves murder mysteries by the night discreetly.

For No.1 we have the Death of Ivan Ilyich(92 pages long). It is one of the magnum opus of Leo Tolstoy. I had a breakdown while reading this book because this particular Short story is about death and how you come to terms with it. How to cope with the pain that comes with it?

For No.2 we have Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka(90 pages long). It’s the story of a man who wakes up one morning to discover he's been transformed into a giant beetle-like creature. After reading this one, an Existential crisis is inevitable.

For No.3 we have the Strength in our Scars by Bianca Sparacino(160 pages long). It is a book, especially for people who are trying to heal from a break-up. It’s soothing and comforting, just what you need when you're grieving someone who has been fundamental to your life until that moment has died. There is nothing trivial about true heartbreak, it's actually a sign that you have loved deeply

For No.4 we have none other than the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success by Deepak Chopra(73 pages long). one of my favourite spiritual books of all time. For No.5 we have Inward by Yung Pueblo(240 pages long). Inward is a collection of poetry, quotes and prose that explores the movement of self-love to unconditional love, the power of letting go and the wisdom that comes with knowing yourself.
