So I worked as a graphic designer in couple of firms across different states in Nigeria. Most of these roles were full time and required me to always be in the office from Monday to Friday, until I worked out of the office in March, 2020. This was some weeks before I launched my startup.

After I walked out the office, I decided I wasn’t going to walk into an office anymore until I have developed myself to a certain level. So I switched to full time remote working. It’s not been very romantic I must say, a couple of setbacks, and I’ll share how I’ve found my way around them.

Maintain A Good Routine

Now this routine doesn’t have to be the same 9-5, as this will not give you the creativity remote working is supposed to offer, it will keep you in a mental cage. However, have a time separated to work when you put away social media, the TV, the Game and every other thing.

This could just be 4 hours a day, but you’ll be amazed at how much you’ll achieve in this short time when your brain is energized.

Eat And Live Healthy

Sometimes, I am tempted to just live on snacks and totally disregard some personal hygiene since I now spend most of my days in my boxers. But this made me dull and unmotivated most of the day, so I learnt to focus more on my personal hygiene and live more healthy. This has helped me become more productive as I can now focus on my work instead of grabbing snacks every 10 minutes.

Another important thing I learnt was to always make a list of the tasks set ahead of me daily. This has helped me focus on hitting some milestones before distracting myself with my phone or the TV. This is also helpful as a measuring metric for my productivity.

It’s also important that you learn to improve yourself with the opportunity you have at home. I registered for a number of online courses and tried expanding my portfolio.

Working remotely gives you a lot of time and you could either waste it or use it productively. The choice is yours.
