Clicking on a link from a spam text could take you to a fake website explicitly set up to steal your money or personal information.

Txt/SMS phishing—also called “smishing”—occurs when scammers use deceptive text messages to lure consumers into

  • providing their personal and financial information
  • along with OTPs
  • or remote access gained from giving the victim a link to click on,
  • or requesting an app to be downloaded (which gives hackers remote access to the device)

which can then be used to hack the victims bank account.

  • Don't answer a call or txt or any kind of msg recieved from an unknown number.
  • Always verify who you are speaking to, especially when there is a request for money.
  • Don't part with your money so easily, especially which you can't afford to lose.
  • Always be suspicious, never give anybody complete trust, as you are responsible for yourself first.
  • Don't be too hard on yourself, if you ever do become a victim of a scam. Fraudsters are manipulative professionals. They do this for a living. There are victims every day and every hour.
