Communicating my needs

I was in a meeting and had a lunch to attend at 12pm. I had to interrupt my meeting to leave prematurely. At first I didn’t want to interrupt, because I didn’t want to communicate my need to leave and felt the easier option was to go to the lunch late. But I realised that it was important to communicate my needs and was met with understanding instead of resentment.
