Not Everyone Is A Saint

Not Everyone Is A Saint

Understand that just because something is immoral doesn't mean some people won't do it. Having faith in people as a whole doesn't translate into trusting random strangers in the street. Be careful who you're talking to, and what their intentions might be.

Be Proactive

Be Proactive

Avoid sketchy roads. This isn't some kind of game where we take unnecessary chances. We've all seen how corny thrillers end. Try picking roads that are busy, have lighting, or a popular shop nearby that you can always ask for help in case of emergency. Have your keys in your hands so that you won't have to spend time looking for them and expose yourself to danger when you arrive.

Be Aware Of Your Surroundings

Be Aware Of Your Surroundings

You can't go around using your headphones and staring at your mobile phone while walking down a road alone at 2 AM. The music and your super important Instagram notifications can wait a few minutes. You are throwing away your vision and your hearing, which are mainly responsible for your everyday survival. Avoid being drunk or under the influence of anything that restricts your ability to understand what's going on around you. Avoid the corners and build a distance between you and any possible threat. Make space so that you are able to react faster if something happens.

Avoid Conflict

Avoid Conflict

Do not argue/fight especially for things that won't matter tomorrow or even in 2 hours time. You never know what the other person is carrying on them, you don't know if they're under the influence of anything and you don't know if they're malicious. Martial arts can help as a last resort but if you have to choose between fight and flight, ALWAYS choose the latter, the problem can't harm you if you're not there to let it do so. If you ever get caught and the situation seems threatening, give up the desired belongings, they're never worth your life.

Double Edged Sword

Double Edged Sword

Never have something like a knife or a taser on you unless you know how to use it perfectly. It can work as a warning for the other person but if they're not intimidated they could very well use your weapon against you if it comes in their possession. The person attacking you is probably much more experienced at this than you are. Again, if you do have them on you, it's absolutely last resort. Always prefer running away from the situation. It's literally the best defence.

Better Safe Than Sorry

Better Safe Than Sorry

Ask for help. Have a group of friends take you home after a long night. Get a taxi. It's better to "waste" some money and get home safe than risk encountering an experience that might even negatively change your life forever.
