I finished reading this book two months ago but I bought it in hard copy last week because it is very good book that doesn't run along with your prejudices and strictly presents the reality; of people who ended up making a grand career for themselves which was not based on simple and manipulative advice:-

Instead of following passion do greatly what you are doing now

It's not a black or white conclusion from Jobs story but one thing is clear; he was not following his passion when he build Apple instead he was doing something to make money and later on turned it into big vision.

Loving what you do is necessary to do great work and it prevails in Jobs and every great person life.

But simply following your passion is not worth it.

Be so good at what you do that you are irreplaceable.

Remember one thing always: If you want to have something of value and rare then in return, you must be able to provide something valuable first.

It's ok if you haven't found it yet

According to the Steve Jobs story, he was not passionate about computers or making a company from the beginning.

He studied arts and dropped out of college and ate at Hare Ram Krishna Temple and kept walking barefooted as his stress buster.

Which shows that he was not align with his intuition all the time but later on he developed an intense love for his work and ultimately when he was landed his job at Atari, he was introduced to world of technology.

Three things to look at when finding new job

Happy job profile requires that you fulfill three basic psychological needs—factors described as the “nutriments” required to feel intrinsically motivated for your work:

Autonomy: the feeling that you have control over your day, and that your actions are important

Competence: the feeling that you are good at what you do

Relatedness: the feeling of connection to other people

Don't quit your Job

When Steve Jobs met Steve Wozniak and discussed the idea of making a computer circuit which was supposed to be sold at 50% profit to small stores.

They were not mesmerized by the idea of it being a big hit instead they kept their routine job along with the idea.

To create a successful project it must:

  1. Compel people who discover it to tell others (nothing that has been done before or is boring)
  2. Be launched in a venue that supports that sharing (the internet, social media, research journals, etc.)

Growth happens outside of your control area

When people want to get better at something they make a mistake by seeking flow: It’s enjoyable, you feel like you have control. But the actual state in which you’re getting better is one of where you feel uncomfortable.

Law of least resistance

Law of resistance states that people tend to do the immediate thing which gives them instant satisfaction even if it comes at the cost of long term loss or disturbed office work space.

To really benefit in long term plans one must contain emotions and devote most of working hours to deep work rather than craving for small wins.
