Reciprocal inhibition

Given by Joseph Wolpe, he reasoned that if behavior could be learned then it could also be UNLEARNED.

Humans are not capable of experiencing two opposite emotions at the same time.

His patients were taught deep-muscle relaxation techniques. Whenever they would feel anxious about an event or thing, they would be asked to "stop imaging the scene and relax"

Wolpe used this technique to develop a desensitization program to cure phobias.
