Humans are not capable of experiencing two opposite emotions at the same time.

His patients were taught deep-muscle relaxation techniques. Whenever they would feel anxious about an event or thing, they would be asked to "stop imaging the scene and relax"

Wolpe used this technique to develop a desensitization program to cure phobias.

Children from neglectful or abusive homes will be afraid that they will not be loved. The feeling of hope is present unconsciously, but there are also other feelings that protect the child from disappointment unconsciously. These feelings cause the child to act out and express hate.

As a result, the parent may also sense a feeling of hatred within himself and feel guilty.

However, tolerating the hatred and persisting through it is important for the child to see that he will be loved no matter what.
