Augmented Reality

At its core, augmented reality (AR) and the metaverse are media technologies that aim to present content in the most natural form possible — by seamlessly integrating simulated sights, sounds, and even feelings into our perception of the real world around us. This means AR, more than any form of media to date, has the potential to alter our sense of reality, distorting how we interpret our direct daily experiences.

Metaverse: Augmented reality inventor warns it could be far worse than social media

If used improperly, the metaverse could be more divisive than social media and an insidious threat to society and even reality itself.

Social media manipulates our reality by filtering what we are allowed (or not allowed) to see. We live in dangerous times because too many people use social media to disseminate untruths and promote division. Augmented reality and the metaverse have the potential to amplify these dangers to incomprehensible levels.

In an augmented world, simply walking down the street will become a wild amalgamation of the physical and the virtual, merged so convincingly that the boundaries will disappear in our minds. Our surroundings will become filled with persons, places, objects, and activities that don’t actually exist, and yet they will seem deeply authentic to us.

What Is Augmented Reality: All You Need To Know

Augmented reality (AR) is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real world are enhanced by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including: visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory and olfactory.

Augmented reality (AR) incorporates three basic features a combination of real and virtual worlds, real-time interaction, and accurate 3D registration of virtual and real objects.

Birth Of Meta

The tech giant, which changed its name to Meta last month, plans to invest $10 billion this year to develop products that support augmented and virtual reality — a robotic hand , high-tech VR glasses and sophisticated software applications, to name just a few. Analysts expect the company to spend at least $50 billion to achieve its promise of a virtual reality future.

The Metaverse is a visual network of virtual environments where people can interact via their avatars.

If online multiplayer video games are combined with immersive virtual reality and high-speed internet, we can begin to understand the Metaverse.

The metaverse has been in the science fiction realm for ages, but it is only now that Big Tech envisions it as the future internet, with companies like Facebook wanting to set up an immersive, 3D/virtual ecosystem for people to work, play, study and shop.
