  • Also known as the father of nationalism, he was an Indian nationalist, teacher, social reformer, lawyer and independence activist.
  • He became the first popular leader of the Indian freedom struggle and is considered as one of the first and strongest advocates of Swaraj during the Britsh Raj.
  • During the freedom struggle, he was given many titles, like 'The father of the Indian unrest', given by British colonial authorities; 'Lokmanya', which means accepted by the people (as their leader).
  • Not just this, even Mahatma Gandhi gave him the title of 'The Maker of Modern India".

I like to think of Tilak as a programmer. He is not too glamourous but he knows how to manage and solve resource constraint problems. He does not think of India as HUGE as it is but he sees it using a modular approach where you need to make progress on an infinitesimal level and that is a real good win too.
