The Reason We Are Stuck: Our Direction

The Reason We Are Stuck: Our Direction

Our real problem is not the lack of time, but a lack of direction, as we all have the same number of hours in a day. We think we need more willpower or motivation, but the truth is that we only need direction.

If we start everything at once, trying to take care of our finances, health, diet and learning at the same time, we are bound to crash. That’s a lot of time wasted.

We are hiding behind the logic and reasoning we give to ourselves for being unproductive or non-committed to our pursuits, most of which are pure excuses.

We need to make things simple and get into action mode, understanding that our mind is showing resistance, wanting to stay distracted. Our actions during challenging times define who we are, and bring direction to our lives.

If we are struggling with productivity and not making progress despite our efforts, we can ask ourselves the following two questions that focus on our direction:

  1. Where are we going?
  2. What do we need to do to get there?

There is uncertainty seeped in these questions, but embracing the uncertainty is part of the process. We have to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Self-affirmations are a reflection of who you are. It is a way of thinking and writing about yourself, moreover, the things you stand for like your values in life. They are positive statements that we use to surmount the negative thinking. They do not rely on fake confidence or creating a fake reality.

They do have a bad reputation. So you have to do it in a way that doesn’t make you cringe.

Procrastination is one habit that most of us have. We tend to delay finishing a task or a project not because we are lazy but because we have negative emotions surrounding the task - boredom, anxiety, depression, and more.

It is a chronic cycle that rewards our present self with a feeling of momentarily relief which could only lead to us procrastinating more often than needed.

Nowadays people are mostly driven by the idea of making a lot of money in as short of time as possible.

However, one thing everybody should take into account is that unless you are really into a certain field, you are bound to give up quite easily as soon as things get just a bit more challenging. Therefore, when choosing your field of activity, think both at how much you really like what this implies and how much money it will bring.
