Get Better at Getting Better: The Kaizen Productivity Philosoph

  • Standardize: Come up with a process for a specific activity that's repeatable and organized.
  • Measure: Examine whether the process is efficient using quantifiable data, like time to complete, hours spent.
  • Compare: Compare your measurements. Does this process save time? Does it take too much time? Does it accomplish the desired result?
  • Innovate: Search for new, ways to do the same work or achieve the same result. Look for efficient routes to the same end-goal .
  • Standardize: Create repeatable, defined processes for those new, more efficient activities.
  • Repeat: Go back to step one and start again.

Long-term thinking

Long-term thinking is more challenging than most people imagine. It is then also more lucrative than many people think.

The long run consists of a collection of short runs that you have to put up with: recessions, bear markets, meltdowns and surprises. Instead of assuming long-term thinkers don't have to deal with nonsense, the question is how you can endure all the short uphills.
