These are two pieces of the same coin and between them there is a third concept that is always hidden or forgotten but nonetheless present in every desicion we make : pain.To keep it simple, all the choices we have can be divided into 2 categories :- the immediate pleasure, that is followed one way or another by pain in the future- the future happiness, that is the result of a pain endured in the present moment. One way or another there is a price that we pay so the question is : Do I want to get small fun now and suffer later or am I ready to suffer now to be happy later ?

Pleasure Or Happiness

"Excuses make today easier but tomorrow harder, discipline makes today harder but tomorrow easier"

It's easier said than done, I know.Although we agree rationally with that idea doing it is another story.First we must understand that pain is a natural and necessary part of the process if we want to reach any goal. In other words, easy shortcuts are always a complete skam.Quick story : One day one a man saw a caterpillar struggling to get out of its cocoon so he used a knife to help it. As soon as the butterfly got out thanks to the man it died because its wings were too weak to fly.Ccl : Going through the pain of effort is a price we must pay to reach our goals

How Do I Build More Discipline

Out of life's school of war—what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger.

Beyond the fear of pain, sometimes the fear of uncertainty (AKA self-doubt) can be far greater. That's why it's important to keep your mind and spirit in check :- your only limits are the ones you impose on yourselfJust visualize your objective clearly, get to work and you will get there 100%.Rather than loosing your time fearing the results focus on the process and enjoy it.Remember : whatever it's height is you have to start at the bottom to climb a mountain 🏔️

Managing Self-doubt

"The magic you are looking for is in the wor you are avoiding"

No matter your excuses and emotion at the moment just don't think and do the work. Don't try to bargain with yourself it comes to weakening your spirit by enforcing the worst addiction you can : comfort.At the end of the day what is in motion stays in motion and the hardest things in life remain the ones that make life the easiest.So out of respect for your self give up to the luxury of giving up and go all in on your input (your efforts) which is under your control by opposition to the outcome (your results) which doesn't depend on you.

🎯How You Can Stick To Your Objectives

🤯 Adopting new behaviors🤯 Filtering distractions 🤯 Resisting to the temptations 🤯 Dismissing our emotions🤯 Trying to impress others🤯 Facing fear🤯 Doing something that we don't like🤯 Delaying gratification Obviously all these categories can be divided into subcategories and don't get me wrong I am not saying that we should stop these activities to preserve our energy. Often the things we find challenging are the things that make us grow the most, but done wrong, they can hurt.

List Of All The Things That Deplete Our Cognitive Energy

Any one who tried to adopt a new habit in his life knows how much of a struggle it is.Now does it mean that we should remain the same for ever and never change ? Obviously no. Adopting new and healthy habit is great to grow yourself and learn to more about your inner self. However there are some mistakes that could make you regret, hate or fail in the process :<ul><li>Adopting too much habits at once (it's pure masochism) just give yourself the time to developp one at a time</li><li>Setting the level of difficulty too high from the start (be patient and let your progress compound)</li><li>Focusing on the results </li></ul>

Adopting New Behaviors

To be honest I still struggle myself to find the right dosing of distractions in my life.I thought for a while that it was intrinsically a bad thing and tried to completely get rid of all form of distractions (social media, movies...). It's just unbearable in the long run. I think that some part of us just needs a bit of entertainment whatever form it takes. Maybe that's what cultivate our creativity and imagination or perhaps our brain just need moments where he switch into a more childish and effortless mode. It's up to each one of us to adjust that level to remain in a growth state

Filtering Distractions

This one is very harmful and quite easy to get rid of. It takes time to admit it but we are no super heroes with superhuman will, whatever is the temptation you are resisting to, there is no better way to make it impossible or at least very hard for you to give up to it.Someone who wants to stop eating sweets is very much likely to succeed over time in a house without chocolate than someone who wakes up every morning and sees a chocolate bar in front of him.So just reduce the friction one way or another, it will save you energy and push you towards your goals.

Resisting To The Temptation

Many times it feels better to just ignore one specific emotion that we are not ready to face at the moment.Here is the thing though, emotions don't disappear with time if we ignore them they just get stronger to the point where you can't act blind anymore.It's okay to ignore an emotion if you think it's not the right moment for you to handle it but just find a hobby or a habit that puts you in front of your inner self to prevent such as crying or having a panick attack in public from happening (for me journalling and occasionally writing on deepstash has been a good solution).

Dismissing Our Emotions

That's a really toxic addiction that unfortunately prevails in our modern society with always more people trying to show off with their new fancy and expensive product.But as long as you will need the validation of others to assert yourself you will never be free nor happy.Obviously it doesn't mean that we shouldn't care at all at people's opinion and refuse their love.We remain a social animal. We just have to find of ways to impress others through our personality and intrinsic values as we should accept other's opinion if it encourages our growth but without being dependent of it.

Trying To Impress

No one is fearless and there is no person on this planet for whom facing fear is easy.
However, fear is often due to ignorance or false beliefs. We all have lived at least once that experience when something seems almost impossible to do and to go well but after doing it it turns out to be pretty easy.
You must see fear as simple black lenses that darken your perception. Just count to 3 and do it once then you will see the reality as it is again.

Facing Fear

AKA discipline, this concept is hard for everyone but there are some things that are commonly forgotten or misinterpreted in it's application :<ul><li>There is no debate for the things that you dislike to do and that are detrimental to you (just don't do them)</li><li>Discipline is temporary, it's just the step that follows motivation and that precedes habit</li><li>We need discipline at first because the thing we try to stick to is hard but with time it becomes easier and we all love easy things (it's like in a game : no one likes to loose but you have to loose multiple times to taste the pleasure of winning</li></ul>

Doing Something That We Don't Like

I will skip the part where I argue on why this is crucial, many studies have shown that the ability to delay gratification has a direct impact on our success in life.Fortunately, this ability is not static, it can change over time if we work on it.The fact is that our brain is naturally made to favor immediate pleasures for evolutionary reasons but we all tried the pleasure race and there is always that one new little thing that you want or that you want more of that makes you unhappy. True happiness comes from seeing the fruit of hard labor that you put your heart and soul into.

💪Build a Strong Willpower

We all have a gauge of will power that is full as we start the day and depletes itself as we go through different tasks during the day.Sometimes our problems seem unsolvable whereas we just depleted our "mind battery 🔋" and in that situation even the smallest issues or tasks become extremely difficult.

1#The Mind Is Like A Phone Battery

First things first, we should start the day with the most important task while our battery is at the fullest. Then we can move to the other tasks of the day. However, we must keep in mind that our tasks aren't equal in importance. Subsequently, we have to establish 2 lists :<ul><li>One of all the tasks that deplete our battery but doesn't add much to our lives </li><li>And one of all the activities that reload our battery</li></ul>

Now, What Can We Do About That ?

<ul><li>Some of your tasks are important but take too much of your time while having to little output (like doing groceries, cooking, cleaning...). Those tasks should all be delegated one way or another unless it's your passion.</li><li>Other tasks are completely useless but we still keep doing them to feel productive but doing even 100 of them won't ever equal doing 1 important task, so just get them out of your mind and time.</li></ul>

Assessing The Importance Of Your Tasks

"Being busy doesn't mean being productive"

We all have specific activities in which can recharge our battery but in general things like eating healthy food and having a good-quality sleep works. But you shouldn't restrict yourself to only that and look for as much recharging activities as you can that work on you (try music, journalling, sports...).And keep in mind that activities that include immediate gratification are never really recharging. We just trick our brain into thinking that to feel less guilty bu the truth is the more we are able to delay the gratification the better odds of success we have in our journey.

How To Reload Your Will Power ?

There is nothing more depleting for our brain, our focus and our will power than constant interruptions that move us from one task to another in a short period of time.In average, it takes 25 min for the brain to enter in state of deep focus (by the way that's why techniques such as the pomodoro technique don't work).Many of us give up to distractions and procrastinate due to that, they want to believe that they are able to do many things at once but that only leads to shallow work.So always be all in on ONE THING until it's done then move to another thing.

2# Multitasking Is A Myth

As counter intuitive as it may seem, only 20% of your work generate 80% of your results. Now, what does that mean ? Does it mean that working is useless as it doesn't yeild the expected results ? NOIt means that all tasks aren't equal and that only 20% of what you do deserves your time, energy and focus. So look for those 20% and get rid or delegate the other 80%. Everyday ask yourself : What are the 20% of actions that I can do today that will have the greatest impact on my life ?
