A kid is told to drink medicine in turn for a candy. Which matters, the candy or the medicine?
The end goal that you're trying to reach, is the candy. If the motivation is the candy, the kid won't take the medicine now.
As you try to chase an end goal, you won't feel good in the process. But if you realize that the medicine makes you feel better than the candy, you would gladly take the medicine.

The candy is not going to heal you than medicine does. The end goal won't make you feel fulfilled, if you are not feeling fulfilled in the process.
End states would never come, you have to feel them now. The kid should learn to take the medicine without aiming for the candy. The candy may feel good for a while, but the medicine would heal and make the kid happy in the long run.

The candy is not the result of taking the medicine, but the good health is.
Therefore, the process should be the aim as it brings more value than the result. The candy is not any way greater than the medicine.
