In today's era, people are taught from birth to say "thank you" and "sorry" wherever necessary, which now-a-days is multiple times a day.
But what this has resulted in is the phenomenon that most people say "thank you" and "sorry" without it meaning anything, beating the whole purpose of using these expressions.
Same goes for receiving these. I have had many instances, where someone apologized to me, and I didn't really acknowledge it. Or said thank you, without even meaning it.
This phenomenon has rendered even the truly heartfelt uses of these, meaningless and doubtful

But these expressions, and there frequent use is very necessary in today's world, no doubt. (Unless you want to look ungrateful or rude)
So to have a real impact on people with your "thank you"s and "sorry"s, I recommend adopting the following strategy:-
Prepare around 2-3 different forms of "sorry"s and "thank you"s.
One for a formal/casual use
For example, when you bump into someone
Use these as your day-to-day needs.
The others being for expressing true gratefulness/apologies.
For example- apologizing for a huge blunder.
Use these VERY rarely, only when you truly mean it,
