Guitar-based, melodious British pop music was established by the Beatles, part of British pop’s golden age, back in the '60s. Much later in the ’90s, a diverse group of talented bands gave shape and direction to guitar-based music, giving rise to the Britpop movement.
Adding to the musical appeal were: A cool attitude, guitars, jackets and songs with a sing-along chorus.

Blur was defeated by Oasis in the great Britpop war in 1996(mainly fueled by egos and the British tabloid media), but the lead singer Damon Albarn was such a huge talent that even his small side venture, the cartoon band Gorillaz, hit mainstream success a few years later.
Records like “Clint Eastwood” and “Feel Good Inc.” sold millions of copies and catapulted the virtual band to the Guinness Book Of World Records.
