How To Spot Fake Reviews

Up to a staggering 61% of electronics reviews on Amazon are fake.

And you're twice as likely to buy a poor-quality product that is boosted by fake reviews.

Let's dive in and hopefully you can save yourself from buying crappy products.

Typos

The first and easiest sign is poor grammar and typos.

I know everyone is guilty if the occasional typo, and that doesn't mean you should automatically dismiss the review.

I'm talking about reviews that are borderline difficult to decipher. If it's that bad, then you might want to dismiss that review as fake.

Generic

The next sign is that if the review is so generic that it could apply to any product.

That might mean that it was written to cover as many products as possible, and they just copy and paste it around.

Make sure you look for reviews that have some context.

Timing

If a lot of the reviews for a particular product are listed within a few hours or days of each other, that's a bad sign. It could mean a bunch of people were paid to crank out a bunch of fake reviews.

Wording

If a bunch of reviews use the same words or phrasing, they are most likely fake reviews. It might mean that they are all using a similar script to write from.

Also, if they use repeated exclamation points, that's also a good sign of fake reviews!!

Length

If the review is super short and only has a few words, that's a strong sign of a fake review.

Why use many word when few word do trick? (A little bonus Office quote for you)

Verified

Don't completely let your guard down just because it's a 'verified' review. There's ways to fake that as well. So scrutinize those reviews the same you would for any other review.
