Self-touching or also known as self-pacifying is something that we do both consciously and unconsciously. It's done because our brain requires us to do so.
Certain touches like the twirling of the hair or even just by touching your beard can contribute to psychological comfort. When done correctly it releases a bunch of chemicals that help us relieve stress, calm down, and put us in a good mood.
