The body has many nerve endings that's useful for self-soothing like with our fingertips that can delicately and precisely feel things.
However, the need to touch our face comes with the reason of economic efficiency. We are able to get the quickest relief with the nerves that need stimulating through the face because the nerves there are extremely sensitive and close to the brain thus making the signals arrive quickly and robustly.
We favor the face due to its ample amount of nerves. It rewards us consistently and quickly.
