How to Influence Without Authority

Influence takes time to develop. It doesn't just appear overnight.

• Always bring the data to back up your opinions and decisions. It shows you're informed.
• Show that you're listening. Create a safe environment where people can share their ideas without feeling stupid or undervalued.
• Think about your personal brand. For example, writing an eBook or building a side project.
• Be a keeper of the vision.
• Appeal to people's self-interest.  Show them how they'll benefit from it.
• Embrace resistance.
• Explain your 'why'. Show them the data, the research, and explain your reasoning.
