Maladaptive daydreaming is when a person spends an excessive amount of time preoccupied with elaborate daydreams, and often prefers these fantasies to their real life. While not currently recognized as a mental health condition, research suggests that this problem does exist, and that it shares many of the same features as addictive, impulse control, and obsessive compulsive disorders.
