Maladaptive daydreaming, for starters, is addictive. Everything is happening there and then, You hardly have any idea of reality. You make facial expressions i.e grin, laugh or even feel like crying , which will be noticed by the people around you , who will then rate you “crazy” or “weird” , leading you social isolation, which further pushes you into daydreaming.
It is very elaborate , has plots equivalent to novels or movies ( mostly better) and once triggered , it is nearly impossible to stop. You can't just shake it off. Secondly, it can be triggered by a lot of things..
