Either can contribute to mental and physical health symptoms, including:

  • anxiety

  • sleep issues
  • muscle tension and pain
  • difficulty managing stress
  • substance misuse

Healthy emotional expression involves finding some balance between overwhelming emotions and no emotions at all.
