Mistakes to avoid

  • You break the silence too soon. Employers use silence as a negotiating tool. Instead of backpedalling, use the silence in your favour.
  • You ask for a salary that reflects your lifestyle, not facts. Most employers work within salary guidelines set by the company for entry-level positions, not by your lifestyle expenses.
  • You accept a low salary without negotiating.  if you do that, you’ll likely be underpaid as long as you stay at that company.
  • You think of salary negotiation as a take-it-or-leave-it scenario. You could ask for a review and salary adjustment based on your performance.
