It involves understanding two particular models of reality:

1. SELF-FUELED GOALS: These are end goals that you have absolute control over. No one can take them away from you.
2. YOU ARE ENOUGH: You need not to prove anything to anyone.

Two of these passions (distress and delight) refer to emotions currently present, and two of these (fear and lust) refer to emotions directed at the future. Thus there are just two states directed at the prospect of good and evil, but subdivided as to whether they are present or future.

Giving up your dream will hurt, at least for a time. To drop this vision of your future-self is to drop a piece of you.
