The story of Robin Hood can be seen as the rebellion against a corupt system. Robin starts a process of civil disobedience, which ends with the return of the legitimate king and the reintegration of Robin into a just hierarchy.
Robin in a sense is what a trickster should do when the system is no longer bearable. The trickster/ the joker/ the comedian, which was a formal role in all courts, was the crazy person who could point to real problems without suffering the consequences. He is stressing & testing the system. Robin is what you get when the system rejects the truth of the trickster.
