Vision boards can have different functions

They can be goal-oriented (i.e. earning more money), or theme-related (a travel destination) or intuitive (you're not sure what you want so you just tear out pictures that appeal to you).

Spend a few minutes sitting still and thinking about your intention before starting the creative process.

Vision boards: the concept

The concept has been around for decades now, and was popularized by a few books and celebrities (Oprah Winfrey, for example).

It's based on the Law of Attraction, which says that our minds are powerful tools that can turn thoughts and desires into reality.

The effectiveness of vision boards has yet to be thoroughly researched, but similar studies are inconclusive.

  • Studies showed that people who visualized a positive outcome were less likely to take concrete steps to meet their goals.
  • Visualizing the work to achieve a goal (like training for a sport) was more likely to make the participants do the hard stuff as opposed to just picturing the end result.
  • Some people see visualization as a way to get motivated and keep goals top of mind.
  • The process is simple and it involves using a piece of poster board plus different magazines, drawings, printouts of inspirational words, and glue
  • Cut out pictures and drawings that appeal to you and glue them to the board.
  • Place the completed vision board in a location where it can be viewed several times a day.

Protein Synthesis: Transcription and Translation

The two major stages in making a protein: transcription and translation.

When a cell makes a copy of the DNA, it's then called the RNA since it uses a different type of nucleic acid which is ribonucleic acid. The RNA is used in translation where it's converted (translated) into a sequence of amino acids that make up the protein.

Naming Hurricanes

Hurricanes used to be tagged with random numbers, sometimes latitude and longitude numbers, and other times they were named after the place where they came ashore.

Now, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) coordinates with the National Hurricane Center and give every tropical cyclone (hurricanes and typhoons) short, simple names.
