This is the narrowing path most people will follow. Stop looking for The One: The Inverted Pyramid of Life

The false idea that wanting or having “things” that make us happy is shallow & selfish, therefore we should not want them. This is considered being materialistic. However; there is a fine line between being materialistic & having a desire to express oneself.

Materialism Vs Expressionism 

Materialism is defined as; a tendency to consider material possessions and physical comfort as more important than spiritual values."they hated the sinful materialism of the wicked city" ~ Oxford LanguagesIs it possible to value materials and spiritual values at the same time, & possibly have those material items be an expression of those spiritual values?

Material Values Vs Spiritual Values

To distinguish what is meant by spiritual values, this must be broken down into definitions of spiritual & values. Spiritual means relating to people's thoughts and beliefs, rather than to their bodies and physical surroundings.Values refers to importance or usefulness. If you place a particular value on something, that is the importance or usefulness you think it has.Spiritual values relate to our thoughts and beliefs & how important or useful these beliefs are to us.

Materialism seemingly focuses on valuing tangible items & spiritual values are not tangible. However, what if those things we value materialistically are representative of what we value spiritually? Is materialism therefore in this case okay? Who decides anyway what tangible items are considered materialistic & what isn’t? Materialism is objective and dependent on the thoughts and views of the individual considering it. There is no black & white line showing a definitive place where one embarks on a clear path of materialism.

With so many different opinions, views, ideas etc. who can decide if one person is materialistic? Often materialism conjures the idea of someone owning many things needlessly. Things that aren’t necessary outside of our basic needs. Is it possible that some of those things that are seemingly outside of our basic needs is also the very thing that reminds us daily that our basic needs are met? Is it also possible that by having these things visually in our sight; or surrounding ourselves with them, it keeps us in gratitude, & in a space we enjoy living in, reminded of the blessings we enjoy?

“Collect things you love, that are authentic to you, & your house becomes your story.”

How does your house become your story? Our homes should evolve with us as we grow & move through different stages of life. When this is done, our homes become our story. When we look within the four walls of our home, we should consider if we’re simply living in a house, one we feel detached from that doesn’t speak of things that are important to us; or if we’re living in a home. Living in a home, we’ll see fractured pieces of us spread throughout it. Items that evoke warm memories of our childhood or loved ones, our travels, our unique journey, our favorite things & more.

Your House Becomes Your Story

“Design is coming to grips with one’s own lifestyle, one’s real place in the world. Rooms should not be put together for show, but to nourish one’s well being.”

The items we choose to surround ourselves with may or may not be things we’ve had to purchase. For example, we may have keepsakes passed down from lost family members that keep us feeling grounded to our history & past. We may also have items we’ve collected from our travels reminding us to stay curious about the world & igniting our passion to learn more about places very different from us; or something that reminds us of a particular goal we have. We may choose to spend some money in order to surround ourselves in our favorite colors, decor & a style that we love looking at.

The Things We Surround Ourselves With

There are no rules defining how you choose to make your house a home. Doing so is different for everyone based on their life experiences. When we’ ve created a home as opposed to a house, a place we feel inspired & comfortable with, it becomes our safe haven, a place we choose to be that feels inspiring & safe. It nourishes us. Our home becomes an outward expression of ourselves. There is no set way to do this, only by following our passions, desires & allowing those parts of ourselves we choose to represent us outwardly. It’s good for our wellbeing.

Make Your House A Home

“All these things we find our pieces of ourselves. I’ve built a future by rummaging through the past.”

When we choose to express ourselves in our homes, & what’s important to us, we’re taking pieces of ourselves from our past that we want to remember & build upon in our future. It connects us to our higher selves, as well as to be reminded of where we are heading (in the future) and why. It grounds us to who we are intrinsically & helps us stay on our own path. Look around your home & the things within it. Does each piece have a purpose? The area of materialism vs expressionalism is a fine, gray line. It is easy to start by expressing ourselves & for it to quickly become material in nature.

Express Yourself

Here are some thoughts to consider that can help with deciding if something of interest is from a materialistic outlook or a form of expression.<ul><li>What connection do you have with the item? Does the item remind you of an important encouraging moment in life? Does seeing the item make you want to be a better version of yourself?</li><li>Are you wanting to keep up with the Jones’s?Do you want the item because others have it?</li><li>What feelings come up when you see the item? (I.e.. do you feel inspired when you see it?) Does it remind you of a loved one, or travels you’ve enjoyed & grown from?</li></ul>

Is It Expression?

It is possible to want or have things without being materialistic depending on the nature of the items & reasons for having them in our homes. If an item brings value, peace, growth or more to our lives & we’re better for it, then why not? More importantly, we should be less concerned about what others have than why WE have the things we do. What story does your home say about you?

The way we start our day has a great impact on how the rest of it goes. Think about the time when you had a great walk and feel invigorated. How was your energy throughout the day? How did you feel?In contrast, think about a day when you had a fight with someone or were worried about something. It’s highly probable that that feeling stayed with you for the whole day.Even if you did routine stuff that you would generally enjoy, it didn’t feel enjoyable because there was heaviness inside you.

Yes, very simple, isn’t it? But, don’t underestimate it because it’s not a novel idea.Journaling, any time of the day, has a lot of benefits.

The purpose of morning journaling is to clear your mind, set intentions for the day, and focus on what's important to you. This helps you feel more grounded and centered throughout the day.

Now, let’s talk about how we can do morning journaling. You will need tools, time, and a template to follow so it becomes very for you to do this regularly.Keep in mind that journaling is just one aspect of a healthy lifestyle for better managing stress, anxiety, and mental health conditions. To get the most benefits, be sure you also:Relax and meditate each day.Eat a healthy, balanced diet.Exercise regularly—get in some activity every day.Treat yourself to plenty of sleep each night.Stay away from alcohol and drugs.Use your journal to make sure you follow these guidelines daily.

How Do I Start Journaling In The Morning 

The simplest part. All you need is a journal and something to write with. You can choose whether you want to use a physical or a <a href="https://gratefulness.page.link/blogpost?ref=blog.gratefulness.me">digital journal </a>.Another important part would be to have a place where you can sit and write freely. You should be free of disturbance and be really sure that your words are for your eyes only. Here a digital journal comes in handy.Another tip to block the outside world is to listen to white noise while you write. I’m listening to <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLOM8R6lbzg&ref=blog.gratefulness.me">this track </a>as I am writing.

How this helps me is that firstly, as I live in a busy neighborhood with a lot of vehicles passing on our street, white noise reduces that. And another amazing benefit is that because I’m now used to writing with white noise playing, whenever I listen to it, I naturally get into the mode of writing.

we want to do something good for ourselves, we have to commit to it and do what’s necessary to make it through.So, you’ve got to decide the amount of time you can make for journaling in the morning and then figure out how you can do it.Start with something easy. Say, you will write for 5 minutes. Now, can you take out 5 minutes after you brush your teeth or while you drink your coffee? Set a reminder on your phone for this then.Don’t overpromise yourself about how your whole morning journal practice will be. Just begin. And keep showing up. You can add the frills later.

Coming to the question of what to actually write about, most people struggle at what to write and they quit. I suggest a mix of Morning Pages and Gratitude Journaling.

3. Template 

Morning Pages is a concept from the book The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. It’s basically about writing three pages of all your thoughts and feelings in the morning.There’s no structure, no expectations. You just have to write your thoughts. It can be incohesive, no expectation of perfectionism here at all.Think about it like you are unloading all of the buzzy thoughts in your head so that you can have a somewhat lighter and clearer mind throughout the day.

And once you do this, I suggest ending your exercise with gratitude. Write about one positive thing from yesterday. Anything that you remember to have made you smile or feel good. Just one thing.These practices together give you the space to be expressive and also to switch your thoughts toward the good parts of your life. Ending your journal entry with gratitude will help you keep the thought of being blessed despite everything else.

To begin, you can write one page, or if that’s too much, just one paragraph of your uninhibited thoughts and feelings and a sentence describing the positive part of the last day. If you want to do more, you can do it. Increase it gradually. Maybe you can write more pages, more things you are grateful for, but start small, especially if you are new to this. I’ll now share some prompts that can help you with your morning journaling:

Why do you think it’s on your mind?</li><li>How are you feeling about today?</li></ol>

You can also keep a journal on your smartphone.

Write or draw whatever feels right:Your journal doesn't need to follow any certain structure. It's your own private place to discuss and create whatever you want to express your feelings. Let the words and ideas flow freely. Don't worry about spelling mistakes or what other people might think.Use your journal as you see fit:You don't have to share your journal with anyone. If you do want to share some of your thoughts with trusted friends and loved ones, you could show them parts of your journal.

Keeping a journal helps you create order when your world feels like it’s in chaos. You get to know yourself by revealing your most private fears, thoughts, and feelings. Look at your writing time as personal relaxation time. It's a time when you can de-stress and wind down. Write in a place that's relaxing and soothing, maybe with a cup of tea. Look forward to your journaling time. And know that you're doing something good for your mind and body.

Such a generation was called the Silent one as they were born in an era that raised children only to be seen, not heard, a child is expected to follow and obey, that's why some of their greatest traits are loyality, conservativity, and loyalty.

You call the people born between 1946 - 1964 the "Baby Boomers" a generation the followed the World war when the world has witnessed a significant rise in child birth rates and human productiveness, it's also the era of the birth of civil rights! Imagine that the world firstly got introduced to civil rights after children stopped to be silent and raised more children. Baby Boomers tended to prioritize their careers and sought success through hard work. They were a generation that experienced economic prosperity and were major contributors to consumer culture. More children means more shopping

The War Is Over, Let's Get Married! 

For people roughly born between 1965 - 1980 are the Gen X, who are your parents - if your a Gen Z or maybe Y- Generation X is often characterized as the "Latchkey Generation" because many of them were raised in households where both parents worked, leading to more independent and self-reliant individuals, it's the generation that have seen economical fluctuations, job instability and the birth of the internet and much much more, all Of which justifies why such a generation has been labeled as the helicopter parent moving forward, being extremely afraid for their children's further future.

This is actually my personal favorite generation, although i am not a member myself, for the people born between 1981 - 1996, cool walkman and exotic life styles arising, the concept of a Rockstar and spirituality, the mellennials or the so called Gen Y are the diversity of all options and the sun of new beginnings. They grew up in a time of rapid technological advancements, shaping their worldview and communication patterns. They are often described as optimistic, collaborative, and socially conscious. also known for valuing experiences over material possessions. Which makes them more cool

Born in the globalized era, kids from 1997 - 2012 hate to be called kids, they feel the overgrowth of their ego, and sick of parental control, confident, social and economical ... Wait are they? Generation Z is the first generation to have grown up entirely in the digital age. They are known as "digital natives" and have been exposed to technology and social media from a very young age. They are characterized by their multicultural and diverse outlook, the most open mimded and supportive, however, unfortunately we struggle with social connections and meaning, first victims, of a social Dilemma<warningtag>.</warningtag>
