I barely report about my own life but this time it seems necessary. Reimagine your life, im sure there were times where you underestiminated someones ability to solve a quest. When i learned one thing in doing a body power-based job for nearly 8 years, then that we all have the possibilities to shine in a specific topic.

Your interests define your abilities and your will to tell others about it, will define in which way you will be accepted as an intellectual. As soon i had started my second carreer in the IT section, i managed near the same or more contacts per day as the old elite in my company. One could say quantity isnt a sign of success, but i also got much less reports then others when i handled the topic the wrong way. Regardless of my illness which prevents doing a normal job anymore, i found my way out of the boredom where no one seemed to have an urge for deeper conversations.

Dont take the same road of missing respect and be open for others abilities, as well as your own. The choice of your input, wether videos, podcasts, books or other types of media will take you nearer to a fullfilled life. Allow yourself to shine in a world that seems filled with more and more garbage every day.

Creative writing, filmmaking, painting, sculpting, singing and dancing are just some examples of things that most of us link to the word “art”. Still, there are four ways in which we can examine whether a particular “art” has fulfilled its role and purpose or not. These four ways are imitationalism, formalism, instrumentalism, and emotionalism.

Philosophy Of Art 

Imitationalism: Believing in the “imitation” The key principle of imitationalism is that authentic art should imitate actual shapes. This philosophy of art says that more an art piece looks like it was right in front of the viewers’ eyes, the more that piece becomes decent art.Other art aspects also play parts even though the eyes (or the overall visuals) often become the primary things that belong to the imitationalism’s judgment. For instance, the textures, light adjustments, proportions, and perspectives, should mimic the actual shapes as much as possible.

Limitationalism

Formalism: More emphasis on the visual aspectsFormalism is somewhat similar to imitationalism in the way that formalist artists emphasize the visual aspects of the art. Nonetheless, the formalism perspective judges the arts in a more detailed manner in terms of their visual aspects.So, people who follow formalism ideas will judge art based on its line qualities, color compositions, and other relevant elements and principles. After all, this philosophy of art believes art is only good when it fulfils the creative ways and what it looks like to the audience.

Instrumentalism: Focusing on the messageAn instrumentalism perspective judges art in different ways than the first two perspectives. Instrumentalist artists will judge art based on what messages is it trying to convey rather than the visuals or how “realistic” it appears.Therefore, we can find instrumentalist artists in various sectors, such as politics, economics, sociology, and more. These artists believe the most magnificent arts are the thought-provoking ones. In other words, these arts should spark healthy discussions and debates among the viewers.

Emotionalism: Evoking the emotional responsesBoth instrumentalist and emotionalist artists pay more attention to the messages behind the arts than they do on the form. This attribute makes them different from artists who follow the formalist or the imitationalist perspectives.This aspect is the thing that makes it different from instrumentalism. So an emotionalist artist will see art as a great art if it invokes a person’s emotional reaction. In other words, the arts are judged as “decent” when the person seeing them feels happy, sad, awkward, and more, after sensing the arts in different ways

One main philosophy of art is often not enough for a person to judge it. Most people fall into two categories of a perspective. For example, a person can have a mixture of instrumentalism and imitationalism. As a result, they judge art based on whether it can probe into the audiences’ thoughts but also based on how each element resembles the actual stuff.At the same time, people almost always have one perspective that is least important to them. Such a perspective means they don’t pay attention to that aspect when they judge art.

It might sound stereotypical, but a lot of people have this perspective of scientists being less artistic and more rigid than others. Meanwhile, artists are usually perceived as people who are less rational than the rest of the population. Often described as the right side of the brain versus the left side, or artistic creativity versus logical thinking, artistic and scientific minds are usually considered polar opposites.

Artistic Vs Scientific Mind

At first glance, Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso probably don’t have many things in common. While one is responsible for some of the most crucial scientific breakthroughs in history, the other one is known for his celebrated and impressive artistic masterpieces. If you compare an artistic mind and a scientific mind, you might be surprised that they actually have many things in common.

Scientists vs. Artists: Great Minds Think Alike

Throughout history, great scientists and artists shared one common trait, and this is none other than curiosity. Artists and scientists view the world with this thirst for knowledge and they work hard to comprehend how it works. Artists express their views of the world in physical art pieces while scientists meticulously test their theories.

To put it simply, both scientists and artists tread on the same path of initial free thought until they reach the point where they need to act. This is the part where the path divides into two. Those with a scientific mind follow a certain set of rigorous rules and testing to get to their point of understanding.

While most onlookers may see the fields of science and art as two totally different things, the truth is that there is a strong connection that binds them together. Both of them have inquisitive minds.

The key difference between science and art all boils down to the modern attitude of form and rules.In general, modern science seeks to shore up and reevaluate the years of research that led to the present conception of today’s material world.Once new knowledge recasts or disrupts the existing framework of knowing, science doesn’t radically shift or overhaul its base rules but adapts them more cautiously instead.

Differences between Artistic Mind and Scientific Mind

Modern art has almost as many discoveries when it comes to aesthetics and form, but it is more susceptible to radical shifts and usually veers off tradition, which is what happens at least to the most popular forms of art.

It wouldn’t be easy to claim that every artist that operates in the modern era ditches tradition, although high-profile examples tend to do so. Every time you see news about modern artists, they don’t seem like they want to make incremental advances in the knowledge field – unlike scientists that seem to do so. They may be making a more radical turn in a completely different direction altogether.

As expected, even if art and science are distinct from each other in terms of knowledge use, these two fields overlap massively. The obsession with knowledge from the two ends typically means that the thought process of the scientific mind and artistic mind is more similar than you might think.

There will be times in this life when we want to present ourselves in a certain way; when we want to share and boast about our achievements and awards in life. But if and when we toss them away, we will achieve ultimate freedom. Freedom in life, freedom from anyone’s opinions, and freedom from external factors.

TOSS AWAY EGO and VANITY. 

Be as firm as you can. The Stoics don’t tippy-toe around certain areas of life, they stand their ground especially when it comes to morals.

STAND YOUR GROUND.

The Written World

We all live our lives with some accepted notions on how to act, behave and think. We believe in certain things as being possible based on the rules of how (we believe) the world works. But in reality, a lot of these accepted rules are only our assumptions. We don’t see the world as it is but on the basis of our biases. Our perspective seriously restricts our options. In order to free ourselves from these self-imposed crutches, we need to be aware of them.

It’s all invented

In order to be aware, we must ask ourselves at every point;“What assumption am I making, that I’m not aware I’m making, that gives me what I see?”The idea is to identify your wrong assumptions and act on accurate ones. It’s about actually seeing the world for the way it is.  Let’s begin by acknowledging some common assumptions;

The Question

The greatest of our assumptions is that we are in some way all important. Everything and everyone revolves around us. It’s best not to take yourself so seriously. No one else does. When in relation with yourself, give yourself your due. But when in relationship with external things, give precedence to causal relationships.

The chosen one

We measure ourselves as opposed to something. The truth is we are ends in ourselves and that comparison with anything is not worthwhile or warranted. The truth is comparison is only possible among things that are in essence the same and in reality truly nothing is inherently the same. It’s best to live your life outside the limited confines of comparison. And if you truly want to compare yourself to someone, compare yourself to who you were yesterday.

The world of measurement

We all have biases about people based on our first impressions, their appearance, etc. Similarly we tend to account any negative action as arising from a negative character. The idea is not to look at the perceived negatives even in a bad situation and give people the benefit of the doubt. To think that people are inherently good and want to do what’s right. This enables us to see the other person in a positive light and in most cases no one is inherently evil; you will be amazed at the outcomes of many a interaction with this slight shift in perspective.

Give everyone an A

We all perceive our position in a perceived hierarchy as a measure of our ability to make an impact. We must understand it isn’t the chair that gives power; but the ability to take action. And that ability exists, no matter where we find ourselves.

Leading from any chair

The idea is that in doing anything we in turn gain something for ourselves or lose something. But in reality the world does not have such a black and white view of things. At most times the greatest thing you can do is to do things, you have an ability to do without thinking of the end result.

Gain and loss

To really drive the point home, let’s take the example of an argument with a friend. You could take it as a conflict in which one of you has to win or lose, in such a scenario you would focus on finding the best arguments and actions to defeat your perceived opponent and beat him into submission. But in this we lose sight of what’s really important, that being friendship. But in turn if you shift your focus to that of valuing your friendship over everything else, you would be able to have a discussion with your friend in such a way; you both walk away from this situation even better friends.

Gain and loss - Real world example

The idea is to break through your assumptions and see reality for what it is really without bias or emotion. Then it is accepting it for what it is. It is taking a bad event and taking responsibility for your part in it and letting go of everything else. It is in one hand, to identify non-negotiable absolutes, accept them and work your way up from there. But in reality, there are very few absolutes.

Seeing reality

A simple way to practice it’s all invented is to ask yourself this question:"What assumption am I making,That I’m not aware I’m making,That gives me what I see?"And when you have an answer to that question, ask yourself this one:"What might I now invent,That I haven’t yet invented,That would give me other choices?"And then you can invent spaces, narratives and beliefs so that instead of hindering you; enables you to reach for your goals.

Redefining reality

For example the idea of giving everyone an A is an invented story which takes the place of the common narrative the world is out to get you and people are inherently bad. In this framework, you treat people kindly which in most cases would in turn have them reciprocate. Nothing about the situation changes but your actions and thoughts change due to your viewpoint.

Similarly in almost every case, when you find yourself in a box while trying to do something. You will be amazed to find the box mostly imaginary. Once you notice it, the box disappears. This leaves you free to achieve your goal. But in a similar way, if you find it hard to reach a height; we may imagine a box to stand on to extend our reach.

Conclusion

The world is a certain way because we have been trained to see it a certain way. This book tells you there is a choice and we can always see things differently. And that idea in itself is revolutionary.
