Tom Filsinger is a Psychology Lecturer at Northern Arizona University, teaching Psychology of Personality, Social Psychology, and Group Behavior. He is also an author, and entrepreneur that started his own game company, Filsinger Games which markets tabletop cards and dice games as well as online sims.

Tom also partnered with Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee in 2008 on a book of political humour called Election Daze.

What does a typical day look like for you now?

Some of my work is Online (my college teaching) and other work (my game business) involves writing, designing, and planning. I don't eat much because I work best in the morning after a light meal. I do the "heavy lifting" earlier in the day and prefer more routine or Rote work in the evening.

How has coronavirus impacted your work/life?

Being forced to stay inside due to coronavirus has made me healthier in some ways. For example, I am preparing the main meal of a salad every day since I am not on campus where I would usually eat out. I am the king of healthy salads! I put around a dozen healthy ingredients in them including cucumbers, peppers, onions, beets, tomato, carrots, sunflowers seeds, raisins, you name it.

What productivity tips have you found useful whilst working from home?

I write a schedule every morning for what I intend to accomplish. Nothing fancy, just on a standard sheet of typing paper with a checklist of boxes to mark. I always feel a sense of accomplishment to check off those boxes. Whatever I don’t check off makes the list the next day.

When this is all over, what will the opportunities look like?

All events in life, wonderful or tragic, are opportunities for learning and growth. This pandemic will be no different. Some people will go with the flow and evolve with the times. Others will be thrown through a loop and have trouble recovering. It’s up to us, we have the power to move forward productively if we are adaptable.
