Not everyone in a company wants to become a manager. Or has the skills to do so. So instead of forcing people into a management position to advance their career a company could offer 2 promotion tracks:
One for Individual Contributors & another for People Managers, with equivalent pay, benefits, & seniority at each level, allowing ppl to advance w/out becoming managers.
