We all know that our habits can make or break our lives.
However, let's review the facts again and ensure we truly get what is at stake. The benefits of your habits are compounding. Let's imagine you are a writer. If you spend every day writing one page, you can complete a novel after one year.
But think of all the other effects. Finishing that novel will give you a great sense of accomplishment. It will prove to you that you are not a quitter. It will also give you the self-confidence you need to finish other tasks.

By consistently honing your craft, you will also improve your writing. It will take you less effort to write a similar novel. Consequently, you will be able to write a much better one next year if you keep up your habits.
Completing your novel will also open up new opportunities for you. You may be able to talk to book publishers and agree on a business deal. You may also enter the community of other authors and get more connections.

Whether you're a writer, a programmer, a parent, or doing something else, the benefits of consistently doing something good go beyond that particular thing. Good works usually open the door to other great opportunities.
You are certainly capable of doing great things. The problem is that you may only feel like working towards it on certain days. On good days, you may have the self-control to overcome your emotions. But as you've probably learned from experience, self-control is not unlimited. Relying on it can only work as a short-term strategy.

The best way to face less resistance when doing good things is by slowly making it a habit. Good habits are tough to start. But they can give you enough momentum so that every good action will take less effort.
For example, while exercising can be difficult at first, it becomes much easier after consistent practice. Even when you are not motivated, you are much more likely to exercise because it has become a habit.
Self-control is only for the short term. You can achieve unimaginably great things if you develop good habits. And you will find that the benefits will go beyond what you expect.
