- FGM is often seen as an intolerable violation of a child's bodily integrity & human rights because it causes potential harm has no health benefits.
- It is still common for doctors to carry out genital normalisation surgery that is medically unnecessary & even harmful, to mould ambiguous genitalia into a “binary” male/female appearance.
- Circumcision is seen as more acceptable due to faith & it's apparent benefits, despite the loss of sensitive tissue & other such potential risks.
