The endocrine system is composed of different glands which secrete hormones. Hormones are organic substances released from the glands directly into the bloodstream. These hormones are capable of changing the physiological and metabolic behaviour of their target cell to maintain homeostasis. Pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, thymus, adrenal, pancreas, ovaries and testes are the major endocrine glands in our body. Consequently, endocrine system help us to maintain a healthy life by regulating our bodies' metabolism, growth and development, mood, reproduction, and blood sugar levels.
