There must be trust, that both parties are here for conflict resolution, and not hurt each other.

Create a safe space - a space for a non-judgmental, open conversation. To allow the other person to be honest about their feelings, whilst feeling safe and secure when sharing your feelings. 

Showing your emotions is important, especially if they are a means to express what you're feeling to your partner. 

However, when emotions like anger or aggression hit that point of hurting your loved one, that's when we've gone too far. To prevent this, it's important to be mindful of how you're feeling whilst talking to them.

The moment you feel that anger broiling, take a step back, cool off, and come back to give this conversation another go, 

All in all, it is important to have the bigger picture in mind when having these conversations. Also, remember that no argument, no conflict is worth losing your loved one over. Communication is the first step to resolution.

It's not about "you versus me", it's "us against the problem".
