Who we are today is a direct consequence of the actions we took in our past.

Yes I know. Most of our past hurts us. That's the nature of us. That's why most of us are trying to kick our past away from our brains. That's absurd. If it is possible to be done, you would miss the whole memory of you industrial experience too.

Instead of forcing yourself to forget the past. Try to understand the nature of it. Try to realize the cause and the consequences of it. Thus the past which gave you tears will turn into a valley of blessings.
As an example...
You might turn back into your college life and sigh by remembering how you used to be happy with your friends. That past now give you a river of tears.

You feel sorrow. You wish if you have it. But remember the thousands of people who gazed at your car. They wished the same about your car. They too felt sorrow.
Now suppose you don't like cars. You don't feel any passion about any type of a car. Then you see a Ferrari oneday which is parked in the mall's car park.
Now would you feel sorrow? NO

Can you exhume the underlying common problem in all those sorrows? You have a craving about something. That craving gives you tears when you don't meet your standards and expectations about it. It is the same reason which pulls people into depression.
Thus, try to realize the nature of cravings. Nothing is permenant. Even the sadness and even the happiness. You have to give up all your cravings with your death however. And if you are holding all those cravings, that would be a sorrow again.
Remember... It's not yhe PAST. It's you. Try to be happy. Be mindful about the cravings.
