Before helping someone with the struggles of life make sure you are in a fit state of mind, if you are overcome by emotion you will be of little use.
Understand that when you help someone it is about them and not you.
Allow feelings of their emotions, listening itself is already helping.
Never advice you never know what will work for them. Trying to force a solution will only frustrate you.
Accept their decisions and give them control, privacy with their personal issues.
Following these practical rules is assuring, " you are on their side." and will generate positive interactions.
