The meaning of addiction - Deepstash

The meaning of addiction

In Latin, the word addiction means slave. The root word addict comes from the Latin word addictus (past tense addicere), which means “to devote, sacrifice, sell out, betray or abandon.” In the Roman law, an addiction was a person that became enslaved through a court ruling.

And we all know in some way how we can easily become slaves to the object or substance of our addiction. Addictions happen when we are out of touch with our inner selves.
