Reflecting means repeating or rephrasing key content or meaning from the other person.

Instead of saying, "I hear you," summarise and paraphrase the content confirming that you heard them and that you accurately understood them. If you didn't quite understand what they were saying, it allows them to correct you.

Overusing "I'm Sorry"

According to psychologists, we habitually apologize in our communication, but we can learn to be considerate without saying the word "sorry".

We don’t have to needlessly apologize for everything we do. Overusing the word "sorry" makes us feel timid, unconsciously diminishing our confidence.

Ellen Hendriksen

"We have to put action before feeling confidence because when we see ourselves doing challenging things, we start to believe we can."

These days, there are apps to deliver everything from groceries to toothpaste to tacos. Combine this with services that let you stream more media than you could ever consume in a lifetime, and it’s easy to spend most of your time inside, at home.

  • Shop for groceries in person instead of online.
  • Go out to eat instead of ordering delivery (bonus points if you invite a friend or family member).
  • See a movie at the theater instead of streaming it.
  • Buy books at a local bookstore instead of on Amazon.

The purpose of social media is to connect people.

If a friend posts something that interests you, reach out and make a connection. Use social media to organize get-togethers.
