Someday you’ll find the other side of the bed empty and wish you could.

1. Tell your partner you love them every night before falling asleep.

Scoreboards are for sports games, not marriages.

2. Never keep score in love.

Laughing together goes a long way to smooth the inevitable bumps in the road.

3. Laugh until you cry.

I'm 99 and still courting my wife! Marriages don't get boring, you stop trying.

4. Never stop dating.

Take out the trash, refill the soap dispenser, put away the toys. Tiny acts of love and respect add up over time.

5. Do one act of service for your partner every day, but never tell them about it.

Don't delay difficult conversations.

6. Time doesn't heal when it comes to relationships.

This is part of the fundamental balance and tension of life. The joy of love comes in the same package as the pain of loss.

7. Don’t fear sadness, as it tends to sit right next to love.

When facing a challenge, face it together.

8. No one has ever argued their way to a happy marriage.

Sometimes it will be 90/10, sometimes it will be 10/90. All that matters is that it adds up to 100.

Marriage should not be the end of individuality.

Minor issues become major issues over time. Furthermore, most minor issues that persist or repeat are a result of a more fundamental issue with the foundation. Address those swiftly, as they won't repair themselves.

If you are struggling to apologize, go for a short walk, breathe, and try again. It's (almost) always worth it.

It's a simple reminder of your love that goes a long way.

If you haven't read the first part of my video notes on reflecting on 2023 with some journal prompts, I invite you to take a look at it first. This is the second part of the New Year planning series, focusing on planning for 2024.So, here you will find some good prompts that will help you plan your next year.

Let's reflect on the future...

Your theme is the intention that you set for the entire year. It could be one word or a phrase, and it will serve as your guiding light for the entire year. It’s like your North Star. So having a theme is a nice way to guide you towards the kind of year that you want to have. ⇒ Do you want to focus on building your confidence this year? Do you want to focus on your career? Do you want to focus on relationships? Do you have a new mindset that you want to adopt? Maybe you want your theme to be abundance, joy, love, etc.

What is my theme for 2024?

So, if your theme is self-love, your actionables could be: I’m going to journal at least twice a week, or I’m going to do yoga and stretch my body every day, etc. It could be anything.

What can I do to embody my theme in the new year?

What are the ways that you want to grow this year? What’s the next evolution of you going to be? What does that person look like? Start to imagine that ideal future version of yourself, and write down how you can grow into that ideal future self.

How do I want to evolve in 2024?

What are all the things that feel like baggage, that feel like they’re holding you down or holding you back?This could be negative habits, a negative mindset, negative beliefs, or memories from your past that you’re ready to let go of, forgive, or leave in the past and not bring with you.Take everything that you need and leave everything behind. Don’t take what is not serving you; only take into the new year what is helping and serving you, what is supporting the new ideal version of you.

What do I want to release in 2024?

What are the main goals that are really important to you to accomplish this year?You can start by listing all that’s on your mind, and then you can underline the goals that are actually important. Sometimes we mix up important goals with “nice to have” goals.So, pinpoint the goals that matter to you the most. There should be no more than 10 main goals. For each goal, write down why that goal is important to you. If we don’t recognize our ‘WHYs’, we can easily forget about the goal or lose motivation.Each of these goals should align with the ideal dream life you are creating for yourself.

What are my main goals for 2024?

Out of all the goals that you set, which one is the most important for your year?This is the goal that you would be most proud of, satisfied with, or fulfilled by if you were to achieve it.

Which is my most important goal?

Break it down by the months, and then by the weeks.If it’s a big goal that would take almost an entire year, you can ask yourself: What does that goal look like in six months? What does that goal look like in three months? And then, what does the next month look like?And what do the next three or four weeks look like? In this step, you take this lofty goal and break it down to the smallest detail so that it feels real and very actionable.

I believe that planning for the next year is a good habit to have, as it keeps us focused throughout the year. So, in this second part of the New Year planning series, Aileen offers some prompts that will help you reflect on your goals and aspirations for the year to come.

2024 Goals: New Year Planning & Goal Setting 🌟

Before moving on to the future, we have to reflect on the past, because this is where we’re going to get our learnings and our feedback from.A great way to do that is through journaling based on some good prompts. All the prompts that Aileen is sharing in this video are based on her 2024 Artist of Life Workbook (you can find the link in the description below her video). Even if you don’t have her notebook, you can simply use any notebook or Word document to answer these prompts.

Reflect on the past year...

<ul><li>Finish the sentence: 2023 was the year that I...</li><li>What was 2023 all about for you? You can summarize it in a phrase, a sentence, or maybe even a word.</li></ul> <ul><li>List all your highlights and accomplishments from 2023 that you’re proud of.</li></ul> <ul><li>What worked in 2023? What were your wins? What were the things that worked for you, whether it was something big or small? Maybe you added a positive habit, or maybe you adopted a new positive belief this year.</li></ul> <ul><li>What didn’t work in 2023?Name at least 3 mistakes or failures that you had this year, and then write what you learned from them.</li></ul>

1. It’s important to look at life like a beginner and to have a beginner’s mind in everything that you approach. Only this way, your mind is completely open, you’re a blank slate, and you’re humble. If you think you know everything, your mind is fixed, and it’s closed off to learning something new.2. You have to continue to challenge yourself in order to grow. You can’t just do the same things and expect better results. You have to get out of your comfort zone, do something new, try something different, and take some risks to move on to the next level.

3. It’s important to detach your self-worth from the results. Sometimes we challenge ourselves, and it fails, making us feel bad about ourselves. Instead of letting failures and mistakes make you feel down, take them as pure information.And use this information to try again and do better next time. Look at the things you do as experiments. Approach everything in your life with a detached mindset, as it’s not about things going perfectly; it’s about doing, trying, and learning. Everything is information that will teach you how to do better next time and move to the next level.

Learning to control your thoughts, emotions, and body helps you gain mastery of your mind.

The 5-4-3-2-1 method will distract your mind long enough for you to regain a sense of control. Doctors use this method to help patients overcome panic disorders.

Here is how the 5-4-3-2-1 method works:Slowly count down from five to one. As you count down, use each number as a cue to engage one of your five senses.<ul><li> Five – look at five objects in your environment. </li><li>Four – hear four distinct sounds.</li><li> Three – feel three sensations. </li><li>Two – detect two smells. </li><li>One – identify one taste.</li></ul>

The 5-4-3-2-1 method 

Think of consciousness as a ball of awareness that moves in and out of your body. When you’re lost in thought, your ball of awareness hovers inside your mind, bouncing around like a pinball with all the what-ifs scenarios you’re thinking of “What if this happens? What if that happens? What if I’d done things differently?”. If you take a second to notice the fine details of an object in your environment, like the lines and colors of your wood desk, your ball of awareness leaves your mind and hovers over the desk.

By performing the 5-4-3-2-1 method, you keep your ball of awareness outside of your head long enough to lower your anxiety and regain a sense of control.

Behind every ‘overthinking episode’ is a debilitating belief. For example, if your mind is racing before a presentation, you must believe you are unprepared and will bomb.
