Apple Search Ads’ AdServices attribution doesn’t depend on the IDFA but more importantly doesn’t depend on the ATT consent status, which means ASA needs to be handled slightly differently than other UA channels.

The payload when a user is coming from one of your ASA campaigns is pretty granular: you can get keyword-level data and you can get retention as well as other post-install metrics.

Thomas still likes to have ad groups (regardless of how they group keywords - meaning, LTV, etc.) “duplicated” so that he ends up with 3 ad groups targeting New Users LAT Off, Returning Users LAT off and All Users. It’s a more complex structure (and there is some audience overlap), but the conversion/ARPU/retention performance can be entirely different depending on the targeting. It also helps if/when deciding from where to pull back spend.

An ideal solution would be for Apple to make possible what’s possible right now on Android (and that Android is trying to change): if you’re a game, you use IAP. If you’re not, you can use a webview. In the Android Kindle app there is a tab that says “store” that loads a webview. Same thing for Spotify and Tinder.

Apple’s culture, thinking and decisions have been guided by never facing again the challenges they had in the 90’s. They never want to have people on their platforms (developers) be more important than they are. Apple wants lock-in on iOS to come from Apple, not from any other company (Microsoft, Adobe, or a future developer).

Apple’s power is still underrated. People get upset about the 30%, but those kinds of things are sideshows. The reality is that we still don’t know what the best business models and the best ways to monetize apps are, because it’s never been tried.

Acquiring Apps as a Growth Strategy

Consumer Acquisition is seeing iOS revenue down 15-20% across their portfolio of companies, with different impacts for subgenres: the most impacted are games targeting narrow audiences (hunting whales) and apps monetizing with in-app ads.

💎 iOS revenue down since IDFA loss

Some brands have a tendency to buy on a blended model, combining organic + paid. Smaller studios tend to focus on direct UA performance, so their KPIs will look worse because a large percentage of downloads are not tracked as well.

Harder for smaller studios

Upptic sees that on iOS, for certain apps, SDK Networks have started to represent a bigger proportion of the profitable spend than FB/Google. However a possible reason is that major networks are still relying on probabilistic attribution through MMPs, and this might not be a short-sighted approach.

Ad networks doing great (for now)

What will be very important moving forward: onboarding flows, early monetization signals and a deep understanding of your personas (who you’re building for, what do they read/watch/listen to and their motivations in the external world). This will allow you to cluster creative and interest. Example of campaigns: targeting people that like to kill each other vs. people that like to relax vs. people that like to complete levels.

Two Parts Of Game Monetization 

Using a consecutive reward mechanism by building a chain of three ads that can be shown in a row (each time with a better reward) makes it&nbsp;psychologically easier for the user to view all three ads.

Consecutive Reward Mechanism

Add a difficult challenge&nbsp;that makes the&nbsp;user perceives viewing ads as a reward and be happy/excited about it.&nbsp;Example: Flying Piñata in Burrito Bison, where you need to catch the Piñata, which is not easy. Having caught the Piñata, the user sees the following screen with a reward (when watching the video).

DataSeat believes that the privacy thresholds are 10 installs or above, per publisher, per region (Apple’s region: Europe, North America, South America, APAC), per campaign ID, with a 24h rollout period. Above that, the installs from that publisher will start being populated.

Privacy threshold 

SRNs certainly don’t want to report what is click-through and what is view-through. The biggest example is Youtube: it drives huge performance but it also skews towards views whereas the rest of the industry is judged on clicks. This is something advertisers should now be able to see if they receive the postbacks.
