All emotions are welcome as long as they are regulated. When someone oversteps their limits, when someone hurts us, we need to feel the anger that motivates us to set boundaries in order to remove ourselves from abuse, and defend/attack when necessary.
When anger is left unexpressed not only will it have numerous negative effects on the mental and physical health. Those effects are bound to interfere with the ability to set proper boundaries.
Emotions reveal desires. When we extract the core messages, they guide to where focus is needed; attention and action may then follow.
Assuming that happiness should be a target and that positivity is a constant does more harm than good.. By denying negative emotions we experience deeper and more prolonged negative emotions and usually results in emotional dysfunction.
Rigidly trying to be positive can only be achieved by avoiding reality and therefore hurting ourselves in the long run. Refusing to admit that things are bad perpetuates those bad things instead of solving them, so the best thing to do is be honest about problems, you may however have a positive outlook towards solving them, and then work to solve them.
Self is that part of you which is connected to a higher being, while ego is that sense of identity that you have as an individual to be able to compare and relate to others or the environment.
Self is something typically associated with positive emotions, while ego is attributed to negative emotions, both necessary and need to be in balance.
