When people judge : why it's really NOT about you .

You and I, we judge others. And they judge us. We all do it. Sometimes we judge with positive or non-harming intentions.

Unfortunately, our judgment often comes from a negative place, with darker intent.

Let the People Judge

Let the People Judge

by John Echeverria

Learn to love yourself.

In most cases, we judge others in order to feel better about ourselves, because we are lacking self-acceptance and self-love. ... If we could all learn to love ourselves, we would make our world a much more compassionate and much less judgmental place.

We are all judgmental. Yes, even you. I certainly am, many times. I think it’s human nature.

And yet, while it is in our nature to be judgmental, I don’t think it’s always useful to us. We look down on others, as if we are so much better … and that creates division between people.

Here's the DUAL method:

  1. Don't pass judgment. If you find yourself being judgmental, stop yourself. ...
  2. Understand. Instead of judging someone for what he's done or how he looks, try instead to understand the person. ...
  3. Accept. Once you begin to understand, or at least think you kind of understand, try to accept. ...
  4. Love.
