Gestures and Wellness 1

Surabhi Mudra is a sacred gesture or 'seal,' otherwise known as the 'wish-fulfilling' mudra. In yoga, mudra's are used to direct or seal energy in the subtle body. Surabhi Mudra is named after Surabhi, daughter of the divine cow Kamadhenu, and the placement of the fingers in this mudra symbolizes the udders of the cow. This gesture is used to treat rheumatism, arthrosis, bile and gout.

Gestures and Wellness 2

Surabhi Mudra stimulates the manipura chakra (solar plexus) and helps to bring all five elements into balance, particularly by calming the fire element. When the eight fingers come together, a number of nerve centres and glands are stimulated, such as the adrenal, pineal and pituitary. As such, Surabhi Mudra helps to detoxify the body, and improves digestion, metabolism and hormonal equilibrium.
