Feeling stuck

It’s a mixture of feeling paralyzed, depressed, overwhelmed, hopeless, being in doubt about the future and many other similar negative feelings.

You usually get stuck after making a series of bad decisions. You may feel like you are stuck in a relationship, in a job or in life in general.

People feel stuck in their:

  • Own body: illness, being overweight
  • Mind: bad thinking patterns
  • Key relationships: boss, coworkers, spouse, family, social groups
  • In a job or career
  • In money-related things, or even in negative market trends
  • In constant unhappiness
  • In a lack of creativity or intellectual stimulation or a lack of hope or having no direction in life and similar.

You are not really stuck

You can’t be really stuck, because everything is moving and going forward, and so are you. You are only spending your time, energy and other resources wrong.

And it’s more than obvious that doing the same things and expecting a different result is crazy.

Recognize the 'benefits'

There are certain benefits to being stuck you are enjoying. They can be enjoying the comfort zone, emotional security, financial security, being used to people and things, and so on.

The pain of being stuck is usually smaller than the pain of freeing yourself and doing something about it.

Don't wait too long

Kill the monster when it’s still small.

Most people wait until the pain of being stuck becomes much bigger than doing something, just anything. And by then it’s usually far too late to constructively solve a problem without severe damage.

Work from home

If you are able to work from home, make a dedicated working area inside your home that is only used for work. You want a spot in your home that you begin to identify as the place where you work.

It helps if the spot can be isolated a little, by closing a door or through some other means.

Learn a new skill

Spend some of your time on a new professional skill.

What's Holding You Down

Some people allow fears to keep them stuck in their situations. Fear has the ability to keep you stuck and control your mindset.

You can silence it by stating this fear out loud and becoming familiar with the worst-case scenario.

Stress and motivation

Used effectively, stress can motivate us to accomplish more than we had imagined possible. Stress can jolt us to reach our potential. Without stress, we’d feel rudderless and without purpose.

Not all stress is bad for you
  • “Good stress”: which psychologists refer to as “eustress,” is the stress we feel when we’re excited about something.
  • Acute stress: when something surprises us or catches us off guard. Acute stress is the body’s response to ensure you react and take measures to deal with the unexpected situation. It has no lasting negative effects if we deal with it quickly and move on.
Build your resilience

Resilience is how we deal with stress effectively so we “bounce back” after a difficult time.

As we deal with issues that cause tension and strain, we learn to face adversity, deal with significant issues and overcome problems. We learn how to formulate realistic plans and carry them out.
