Basic tools you should have for every cramming session

Cramming sessions tends to be exhausting. I mean, who would not be exhausted processing a week worth of lessons?Enter highlighters. Cramming sessions are exhausting because we throw a bulk of information into our brains. To at least help our brain cells, it is better to break ideas into blocks.Also, unless you need to memorize all those stuff, it might just be better if you just put all the important stuff in your head first. Then leave the rest. I mean, this is cramming. Unless you have an eidetic memory, you can’t possibly cram too much information.

Highlighter

Writing on sticky notes is an effective way to break complicated information into simple blocks. Sticky notes are also helpful for adding bits of quotes or mnemonics.

I am not a fan of writing in static notebooks. I mean, I want my notes to be flexible as possible. Learning is dynamic, so should my notes be. Luckily, clips are lifesavers. Paperclips help me rearrange my lessons in not-so-hassle ways. I can add another shits of examples or add a corrected version of previous exams to any of my compiled lessons.

Whenever I am in cramming mode, I often forget to set a timer for myself. So, I ended up exhausting myself more than necessary. Setting a timer allows my brain to rest and process all the information you tried so hard to cram. Moreover, studying for too long can cause back pains and other physical problems. It would not be nice sitting in an exam with a backache.

Forse il titolo è troppo forzato, ma credo che rispecchi la realtà. La durata della connessione-lettura ad una pagina web, nel migliore dei casi, non supera i trenta secondi. Bisogna essere non solo particolarmente veloci nella lettura per arrivare alla conclusione del primo paragrafo. E’ importante anche che chi legge sia interessato all’argomento. Può anche accadere che si conosca chi scrive ed allora l’interesse del lettore aumenta.&nbsp;

Non bisogna essere delusi o illusi, la realtà è questa. Data l’infinita quantità di materiale presente in rete, una “realtà liquida” che scorre inesorabilmente 24 ore su 24, una vera e propria alluvione incontrollata ed incontrollabile. Non è una questione di attenzione per i contenuti, non è colpa di chi scrive. L’uso del web ci ha fatto diventare tutti più veloci e ricettivi a discapito della lentezza, ma anche della riflessione, elementi entrambi decisivi per affrontare contenuti complessi.

Realtà Liquida

La cosa curiosa, però, è che gli “scrittori” fioriscono come funghi. Le "scritture" in rete fioriscono in tutte le stagioni, per ogni tipo di argomento, in tutte le possibili forme che il digitale offre: parole, suoni ed immagini. La ragione di questo va ritrovata nel fatto che la scrittura ha assunto una funzione senza dubbio terapeutica.&nbsp;

Scrittori come Funghi

Tutti concordano sul fatto che scrivere porta benessere, soprattutto per chi scrive. Chi comincia non ne può più fare a meno. Scrivere migliora la capacità di introspezione, mette ordine nei pensieri e genera una narrazione, uno “storytelling” per dirla con una parola alla moda, che completa la propria personalità, affina il proprio “business”, aumenta la creatività e gli interessi.

Lo “storytelling” è uno strumento di persuasione, comunicazione ma soprattutto di riflessione. E' in grado cioè di interpretare la realtà e costruire significati. Questo lo verifichiamo ogni volta che scriviamo. Da un'idea confusa, nasce un concetto, un progetto mentre si scrive. Io personalmente non so quasi mai dove andrò a parare una volta che mi sono messo alla tastiera. Se provo ad usare la penna, incontro difficoltà impreviste ed impensabili quando non c’era, non dico il pc, ma nemmeno la macchina da scrivere.&nbsp;

Strumento di persuasione

Il mio pensiero va a quando, ragazzino, nella tipografia paterna osservavo i compositori i quali dai grandi cassettoni delle lettere di piombo, le prendevano una ad una e componevano la riga sul tipometro. Riga dopo riga, davano poi vita alla “forma”, la quale, messa in macchina, opportunamente inchiostrata, generava la pagina.&nbsp;

Adesso io, con le mie dita sulla tastiera, in maniera veloce e dinamica, in poche battute, dò vita alla pagina, andando dritto al cuore della comunicazione, quello del “senso” della scrittura, e la propongo al lettore, in tempo reale, superando spazio e tempo.&nbsp;

Essa rimane nel tempo e si allunga nello spazio infinito della rete. Vi pare poco? Ma se la scrittura è terapeutica, liberatoria e libertaria, la stessa diventa del tutto inutile se non diventa lettura. In un prossimo post mi occuperò della sua importanza.&nbsp;

Active recall is when you're testing youself. <ul><li>Testing yourself is part of the learning process.</li><li>At the end of every paragraphs, stop and ask yourself, “What are the key concepts from what I just read?”</li></ul>

Studies found that hand written notes are better than typed written notes. <ul><li>Handwriting takes more time which leads you to only writing the most important things. </li><li>Cornell Note-taking System: one side is for questions and the other side is for the actual notes (the answer to the question). </li></ul>Know what works for you. If you think typing is best for you, then learn how to take note effectively using that system.

Understanding where a topic fits in the wider picture. Ali Abdaal, a doctor and a YouTuber, likes to say, “Don't miss the forest from the trees.”What this phrase means is that don't get too focused on a certain topic without understanding where it fits in the overall view. See it in the bird's eye view rather than in the worm's eye view to comprehend it better.

Scoping The Subject 

Feynman technique: being able to explain something or teach to a friend or to a 5-year-old what you've just learned. After learning a topic, ask yourself:<ul><li>Does this makes sense?</li><li>Could I explain it to a 5-year-old? </li></ul>Tips:<ol><li>Use simple words in explaining </li><li>Drill down to the essence or be direct to the point </li></ol>

A lot of our headaches usually start with stress. Students have to sail through stress due to various reasons such as preparation stress, the stress of covering the vast syllabus, stress related to failure, and many more. You cannot move away from all this but you can surely control your stress level.

1.  Mental stress

Early Preparation: You must start preparing for any test or exam well in advance. Thus There wouldn’t be any stress pertaining to syllabus covering. Plan It Out: Be a planner freak if you wish to avoid headaches. Plan everything out by writing and studying according to the to-do lists. Do not fear studying: You must create your own routines and system to study. Try to make studying a fun activity by indulging in stationery, sticky notes, watching videos, and making colorful notes.

Avoid stress-related headaches

You also have headaches due to prolonged periods of studying. It leads to fatigue. <ul><li>Studying for a test and then not getting the desired result can also lead to frustrations that paves way for headaches. </li><li>Constantly thinking and studying can also lead to headaches. </li></ul>

2.  Fatigue and frustration

<ol><li class="ql-align-justify">Preferred time slot for studying: Always aim to have a preferred time for studying when your energy levels are at a peak. Try to cover the most important topics at that time to avoid developing headaches. </li><li class="ql-align-justify">Try Pomodoro method</li><li class="ql-align-justify">Take frequent breaks</li><li>Reset from a slump: Whenever you fail, try to analyze why you failed and then get back without having any frustrations. I know it hurts a lot, but get back into the Do-it mode! </li><li>Re-energize with energy-dense snacks</li></ol>

In today’s world when the entire world is going digital, this problem is inevitable. Staring at mobile phones and laptops can wreak havoc on your headaches.

4.  Increased screen time

<ol><li>Take breaks frequently and use the time to stretch your body and do some light yoga.  </li><li>Avoid sitting and working for a longer period of time. It is advisable to not sit for longer than 20-30 minutes if you are studying from your laptop.</li><li>If your preparation requires you to stare at a computer screen, then make sure that during breaks or free time, you do not use any type of technology or screen. </li></ol>

Often we don’t understand it but an incorrect posture also can lead to shoulder and headaches. Migraines are intense pain that occurs in the temples of the head, in the forehead, and also affect your shoulder and neck. There are mainly various triggers that lead to migraine pain. This type of pain can last up to hours and for some, it might be days. If you have an intense migraine, you might have to be injected with medicine to reduce it.

<ul><li>Know the triggers: Some of the triggers can be chocolate, caffeine, any eating habit, or any stress-related issue. If you can detect the triggering factor, you can avoid it to reduce the migraine effect. </li><li>Avoid caffeine</li><li> Stay hydrated</li><li>Reduce stress: Reduce stress at all costs!
